Joshua Warner Studios is a scenic design and fabrication studio creating scenery and custom installations for theatre, live events, and brand activations. We are seeking a Technical Drafter to develop clear, buildable construction drawings for projects that frequently move on quick turnaround schedules.

This role requires someone who can think through construction and execution from the start. Working closely with the designer and Shop Foreman, the Technical Drafter determines how pieces will be fabricated, connected, assembled, transported, and installed, then communicates that information through accurate drawings and organized material and purchase lists.

We are looking for someone who makes practical construction decisions, identifies unresolved details early, and delivers complete information that allows the shop to work efficiently.

RESPONSIBILITIES

-Translate sketches, renderings, models, and design drawings into detailed construction drawing packages.
-Develop practical construction methods appropriate to each project+rsquo;s design, budget, fabrication timeline, and installation requirements.
-Produce dimensioned plans, elevations, sections, and details specifying materials, hardware, connections, and assembly methods.
-Think through the full execution of each piece, including fabrication sequence, modular construction, transportation, site access, installation, and disassembly.
-Prepare and submit accurate material takeoffs and purchase lists, including quantities, sizes, specifications, and required hardware.
-Coordinate with studio operations to clarify purchasing requirements and identify long-lead or specialty items early.
-Prepare cut lists and CNC-ready files as required.
-Resolve construction questions with the designer and Shop Foreman before drawings are issued to the shop.
-Respond promptly to fabrication questions and maintain clear, current revisions.
-Manage agreed drafting deadlines and communicate missing information or potential delays early.

QUALIFICATIONS

-Professional technical drafting experience in scenery, exhibits, custom installations, or related fabrication.
-Strong understanding of scenic construction, materials, hardware, and efficient shop practices.
-Ability to independently develop construction details from preliminary design information.
-Proficiency in CAD software; please identify your primary software in your application.
-Experience preparing material takeoffs and purchase lists for fabrication.
-Ability to produce accurate, thorough work under quick turnaround schedules.
-Clear communication, strong organization, and practical problem-solving skills.

Hands-on fabrication experience, 3D modeling, CNC file preparation, and experience with touring scenery or metal fabrication are a plus.

COMPENSATION + SCHEDULE

This is a part-time, project-based hourly position paying $33/hour. Work is assigned by project, with scope, anticipated hours, availability, and deadlines coordinated before each assignment. Hours vary according to project needs.
