Position: Props Carpenter

Reports to: Properties Director

Status: Seasonal, Salaried

Dates: April 20, 2027 through August 14, 2027

Salary: $800 per week, plus housing provided by APT



American Players Theater is currently seeking applicants for the position of Properties Carpenter.



This staff member is responsible for the construction, alteration, and installation of stage properties, with a focus on furniture and set dressing. Applicants should have a strong background in wood and metal fabrication. The Properties Carpenter acts as part of the 5-7 person Prop team to produce props, set dressing and decorative elements for an 8 play repertory season in two theaters, one of which is outdoors. Applicants should be able to read and execute scaled construction drawings. Proficiency in fine wood working techniques including joinery and wood turning are highly encouraged. Welding skills are a bonus but not required. Applicants should be able to routinely lift and move 50 pounds.



Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Execute the construction and finishing of props, including fabrication and/or alteration of furniture and set dressing elements. 

Fabricate other props as directed by the Properties Director. 

Participate in load-ins and other work calls. 

Attend to furniture and set dressing and finish notes during rehearsal and tech of all productions.  

Assist in the maintenance of props in the course of each production's run. 

Assist in the maintenance, upkeep and storage of prop stock. 

Perform regular maintenance on shop tools. 

Maintain a clean and safe work area. 

Attend regular shop meetings. 

Other duties as assigned.
