Head Carpenter / Deck Manager responsibilities
On-tour Production Manager responsibilities
Performances and normal touring production duties
Per Diem: Standard Right Angle Entertainment per diem will be provided for the applicable touring period. $50/day
Housing: Single-occupancy hotel accommodations will be provided on applicable hotel nights. Bus bunk accommodations will be provided on scheduled overnight travel nights.
Travel: Right Angle Entertainment will provide or arrange required production-related travel in accordance with the tour schedule.
Position Summary
The Head Carpenter / Deck Manager / Production Manager serves as a single combined leadership position responsible for the technical preparation, advancing, scenic operations, deck management, and day-to-day production management of Dolly Parton+rsquo;s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol.
The position begins with pre-tour administrative responsibilities in October 2026 and continues through the completion of the touring engagement. During pre-production, this position will lead weekly production calls with the directors, designers, creatives, and production team; manage technical advancing; track production requirements; and help ensure the production is prepared for shop prep, technical rehearsals, and touring.
Once on tour, this position serves as both the Head Carpenter / Deck Manager and Production Manager, overseeing scenic and deck operations while coordinating the daily technical operation of the production across all departments.
Pre-Production + Administration
Lead and direct weekly production calls beginning in October 2026.
Coordinate meetings with directors, designers, creatives, production personnel, and department heads.
Establish agendas and keep production conversations focused on actionable needs and deadlines.
Track outstanding production items, technical decisions, schedules, and departmental deliverables.
Follow up with appropriate team members to ensure action items are completed.
Provide practical touring input regarding scenic construction, venue compatibility, labor requirements, logistics, trucking, and daily operations.
Identify potential technical or logistical issues before the production enters tour prep and technical rehearsals.
Maintain consistent communication with Right Angle Entertainment management throughout the pre-production process.
Technical Advancing
Serve as the primary technical advancing contact for the touring production.
Advance technical requirements with each venue prior to arrival.
Review venue technical specifications, stage dimensions, drawings, loading conditions, labor calls, equipment inventories, and production limitations.
Confirm local labor requirements for load-in, performance, and load-out.
Verify required equipment, rentals, lifts, forklifts, rigging equipment, power requirements, and other production needs.
Coordinate technical needs across scenic, lighting, audio, video, props, wardrobe, and other departments as required.
Identify venue-specific challenges and develop solutions prior to arrival whenever possible.
Maintain accurate advancing information and enter or update relevant information in Master Tour.
Communicate significant venue limitations, additional costs, labor concerns, or production changes to Right Angle Entertainment management.
Tour Prep / Shop Responsibilities
Participate in and lead applicable portions of tour preparation from October 05 +ndash; October 31, 2026.
Oversee preparation of the scenic package for touring.
Inspect scenic elements and identify necessary repairs, modifications, or maintenance.
Develop repair and maintenance plans for scenic elements before departure.
Coordinate preparation of scenic hardware, tools, consumables, spare parts, and touring supplies.
Develop and finalize the truck pack.
Ensure equipment is properly labeled, protected, organized, and prepared for repeated touring use.
Coordinate with other department heads to create an efficient shared truck and trailer workflow.
Technical Rehearsals
Lead scenic installation and deck preparation during the November 8 +ndash; November 13, 2026 technical period.
Coordinate scenic installation with lighting, audio, props, wardrobe, stage management, and other departments.
Establish deck tracks and scenic movement procedures.
Work with Stage Management and the creative team to refine scene changes and backstage traffic.
Train touring personnel on scenic movements and deck responsibilities.
Establish safe and repeatable procedures for all scenic transitions.
Address scenic modifications and repairs identified during technical rehearsals.
Finalize the touring load-in and load-out process before the first performance.
Head Carpenter / Deck Manager Responsibilities
Lead all scenic load-ins and load-outs.
Supervise the installation, operation, maintenance, and strike of all touring scenic elements.
Direct local carpentry and stage labor.
Assign local crew positions and responsibilities.
Verify that scenic elements are installed correctly and safely at each venue.
Manage deck operations during rehearsals and performances.
Supervise scenic transitions and backstage movements.
Maintain clear and safe backstage traffic patterns.
Inspect scenic elements before each performance.
Perform or coordinate necessary repairs and maintenance.
Maintain appropriate tools, hardware, consumables, and spare parts.
Adapt scenic installation as necessary for different stage sizes and venue configurations while maintaining the artistic integrity of the production.
Production Manager Responsibilities
Serve as the on-site Production Manager throughout the touring portion of the engagement.
Coordinate daily technical operations between all touring departments.
Serve as the primary technical liaison between the touring production and venue personnel.
Meet with local department heads at the beginning of each load-in.
Review the daily schedule, labor calls, venue restrictions, performance schedule, and load-out requirements.
Coordinate departmental priorities to maintain an efficient load-in.
Monitor production progress and address delays or conflicts.
Troubleshoot technical, logistical, staffing, or venue-related issues.
Communicate significant production issues to Right Angle Entertainment management.
Ensure all departments are prepared for sound check, rehearsals, doors, and performance.
Coordinate post-show load-out and departure.
Support the Company Manager with technical and operational information as required.
Truck Pack + Logistics
Create, document, and maintain the touring truck pack.
Establish loading order and equipment placement.
Coordinate departmental access to equipment based on load-in and load-out sequencing.
Supervise loading and unloading of scenic and shared production equipment.
Maintain safe weight distribution and secure all equipment for transportation.
Evaluate and revise the truck pack when improvements are necessary.
Ensure touring equipment is properly secured before each departure.
Coordinate with drivers and production personnel regarding loading conditions and departure schedules.
Safety
Maintain a safe working environment during shop preparation, technical rehearsals, load-ins, performances, and load-outs.
Enforce appropriate personal protective equipment requirements.
Require appropriate footwear, including steel-toe shoes, during load-in and load-out.
Conduct regular inspections of scenic elements and stage equipment.
Immediately address unsafe conditions or damaged equipment.
Ensure local labor receives clear instructions before performing scenic movements or potentially hazardous tasks.
Maintain clear backstage pathways and emergency access.
Report significant safety concerns, incidents, or equipment failures to Right Angle Entertainment management.
