The 2nd Electrician / Video Technician (L2/Video) supports the Head Electrician PSM during the 2025 holiday tour of Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol. The position is responsible for assisting with the installation, cabling, focusing, and maintenance of the lighting rig, as well as supporting lighting projection fixtures and lx playback systems. This role ensures proper signal flow, moving head alignment alignment, and timecode synchronization between QLab, lighting, audio, and playback systems. The L2 must be a versatile technician able to work across departments to maintain show consistency and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Electrician with all load-ins, performances, and load-outs.
- Support the installation, cabling, and focusing of the touring lighting system.
- Assist with programming and playback of lighting cues on an ETC EOS family console.
- Maintain clean and reliable signal flow between QLab, lighting consoles, audio consoles, and moving head lights.
- Troubleshoot issues with power, DMX, networking, and video signals.
- Maintain and update paperwork including focus charts, video maps, and cue notes.
- Track, pack, and maintain lighting and playback inventory.
- Supervise and support local crew under the direction of the Head Electrician and Head Carp.
- Participate in daily production meetings and safety briefings.
- Support the Production Stage Manager and other department heads as needed.
Qualifications
- Touring or regional theater experience in electrics and moving head lx fixtures.
- Proficiency with ETC EOS family consoles (Ion, Gio, Eos).
- Knowledge of gobos and moving lights, switching systems, and balcony rail setups.
- Familiarity with power distribution, DMX, networking, and system integration.
- Comfortable working at heights and lifting 50+ lbs.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across lighting and moving head lx systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively, take direction, and supervise local crews.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive, professional demeanor.
Typical Daily Schedule (Load In / Performance / Load Out)
8:00am +ndash; 10:00am: Load-in with local crew, power distribution, unpack and prep lighting and video systems
10:00am +ndash; 1:00pm: Hang, cable, and focus lighting rig; install and align balcony rail fixtures 2 to 4 total; verify signal flow
1:00pm +ndash; 2:00pm: Lunch break
2:00pm +ndash; 5:00pm: Cueing, programming assistance, and balcony rail focus
5:00pm +ndash; 6:00pm: Dinner break
6:00pm +ndash; 7:30pm: Pre-show checks (lighting focus, fixture alignment, playback verification)
7:30pm +ndash; 10:00pm: Show call (operate as assigned, monitor lighting spot caller lx )
10:00pm +ndash; 11:30pm: Post-show strike, pack lighting equipment, truck pack assistance
1:00am: Bus call
Compensation
- Rate: $1,000 per week
- Per Diem: $50 per day
- Housing: Dual occupancy hotel rooms provided (shared only at driver stops during overdrives)
Additional Requirements
- Must maintain a drug-free workplace and tour bus.
- Must maintain a professionally groomed appearance.
- Must contribute to keeping shared spaces and living quarters clean and free of clutter.
- Must wear appropriate show blacks or company-designated attire during work hours.
- Must travel by tour bus and be prepared to live and work in close quarters with the touring company.
