Position Summary:
The Head Electrician / Lighting Operator is responsible for managing the lighting department for Dolly Parton+rsquo;s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol during its 2026 holiday tour. The role includes leading all lighting-related operations, managing show lighting programming, and integrating synced lighting and audio playback systems.
The Lighting Operator will program and operate all lighting cues using an ETC EOS family console. Show playback will be controlled using timecode generated by QLab, with QLab sending timecode to the lighting console to ensure precise synchronization of lighting, audio, and video cues. The Head Electrician is also responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the touring lighting rig, power distribution, and supervising local crews at each venue.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the lighting department for all load-ins, performances, and load-outs.
- Serve as the lighting console programmer/operator for all performances.
- Program cues on an ETC EOS family console with show playback triggered via QLab-generated timecode.
- Manage integration of lighting cues with synced QLab playback for audio and video.
- Ensure reliable signal flow between QLab, the lighting console, audio consoles, and video projectors.
- Coordinate with the video team to align lighting cues with video playback through timecode.
- Oversee the installation, cabling, focus, and maintenance of all lighting gear.
- Troubleshoot power, control, and signal issues for lighting and integrated systems.
- Maintain updated paperwork including light plots, focus charts, and cue sheets.
- Track inventory and ensure all lighting equipment is returned, packed, and maintained.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to local electricians and ensure efficient, safe work practices.
- Participate in daily production meetings and safety briefings.
- Support the Production Stage Manager and other department heads as needed.
Qualifications:
- Touring experience in theatrical or live event environments required.
- Proficiency with ETC EOS family consoles (Ion, Gio, Eos).
- Experience working with timecode systems for show synchronization.
- Proficiency with QLab for audio and video playback.
- Familiarity with dual-stacked video projectors, video switching systems, and system integration.
- Knowledge of power distribution, DMX, networking, and lighting signal systems.
- Comfortable working at heights and lifting 50+ lbs.
- Ability to lead and train local crew effectively.
- Positive attitude, flexible mindset, and excellent communication skills.
Compensation:
- Rate: $1400 per week
- Per Diem: $50 per day
- Housing: Dual occupancy hotel rooms provided (shared only at driver stops during overdrives)
Additional Requirements:
- Must maintain a drug-free workplace and tour bus.
- Must maintain a professionally groomed appearance.
- Must contribute to keeping shared spaces and living quarters clean and free of clutter.
- Must wear appropriate show blacks or designated attire during all work hours.
- Must travel by tour bus and be prepared to live and work in close quarters with the touring company.
