Providing a breadth of offerings, including classical chamber music, jazz, popular, and traditional music, the Library is a place where world-class music can be found flourishing in an acoustically superb space. ESSENTIAL REGUALR DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Production Assistant will work directly with production and stage management to facilitate rehearsals and performances in the historic Coolidge Auditorium housed in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. PAs will support ALL departments and we will do our best to match qualified candidates with the needs appropriate to their knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.

● Assist the Lighting Designer and Production Stage Manager
● Assist in the load-in, hang, circuit, focus, program, and strike of production electrics as directed.
● Assist in the load-in, set up, and strike of backline and other production elements as directed.
● Set up and maintain the hospitality area
● Set up and organize backstage
● Shopping rehearsal needs
● Set up and organize production elements (including, but not limited to, setting chairs, music stands, and instruments as needed)
● Maintain production schedule.
● Engage and collaborate with on-stage talent

Secondary Responsibilities:
● Assist the house manager, if needed, with some house/seating related issues.
● Deploy and strike pipe + drape

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE:
Qualified technicians will have a combination of education and relevant experience.
● MUST have ladder experience/knowledge of and demonstrated experience in high work (12').
● MUST have high level knowledge of and demonstrated experience in stage management.
● MUST have excellent interpersonal, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills. 
● MUST have experience with live performance or live-to-tape television production (ideally music, theatre, or concerts).
● Ability to safely lift up-to 50 lbs. with assistance, 25 lbs. unassisted.
● Ability to read, hang, and circuit from lighting plots.
● proficiency with ETC Eos environment
● Demonstrated ability to solve problems, organize, and plan to achieve goals
● Working knowledge of the following is not required, but helpful
● Theatrical rigging
● Low voltage work
● Ability to show up on time consistently with a positive attitude

No separate statement of earnings will be sent by the Library and no taxes will be withheld. However, contractors that qualify, will receive a form 1099 (Non-employee Compensation) for use in the preparation of income tax returns.

The payment of all expenses incurred by the contractor is the sole responsibility of the contractor. This includes, but is not limited to, all travel and transportation (air and ground), all housing, all meals and incidentals and any fees or compensations due unions or representatives.

Nonresident alien performers, artists, and agents are required to have a U.S. individual taxpayer identification number or social security number in order to receive payment from the Library. Payments to nonresident aliens are subject to U.S. Federal income tax, and the Library is required to withhold such taxes from payments. Nonresident aliens may claim an exemption from withholding or a reduction in withholding, if they are eligible to do so under an applicable tax treaty and have completed the appropriate forms. The Library will make eligibility determinations on a case-by-case basis and claims of exemption should be made as soon as possible. Agents may similarly be subject to U.S. Federal income tax.

The liability of the Library and its obligations to the parties to this agreement resulting from any breach by the Library of any of the provisions hereof, or any claim or suit made or brought against any of the said parties, based directly or indirectly upon any act, failure to act, or negligence on the part of any agent or employee of the Library occurring in connection with any activity which is the subject of this agreement shall be determined under the Federal Tort Claims Act, as amended, 28 U.S.C. 2671, the Tucker Act, or any other applicable Act of Congress.
