Gulfshore Playhouse, a mission-driven, professional theatre company located in Naples, Florida,
is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as Scene Shop
Supervisor.
Gulfshore Playhouse offers a diverse season of straight plays and musicals ranging from
venerated classics and Broadway hits to contemporary works and world premieres. The
Playhouse is passionately committed to producing high-quality, professional theatre which
exceeds the expectations of the cultured residents and visitors of Naples, FL, many of whom are
regular theatre patrons in New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
The Gulfshore Playhouse opened the Baker Theatre and Education Center, a state-of-the-art
facility, featuring a 350-seat mainstage with a Broadway-sized stage, a 125-seat flexible space,
rehearsal studios, classrooms, and rental space in October of 2024. In 2022, Gulfshore
Playhouse became nationally recognized as the 77th member of the League of Resident Theatres
(LORT). This is an extraordinarily exciting time for the Gulfshore Playhouse, which is
experiencing unprecedented growth in a collaborative and creative community.
Status: Full-time, year-round position
Start Date: January 2027
The Scene Shop Supervisor will work closely with the Technical Directors and Scenic Designer
to implement and construct the scenic design of each production. They are responsible for
constructing the scenic elements as specified in the drafting provided by the TD staff. They are
also in charge of the day to day operations of the scenic shop, delegating tasks to the carpentry
team, keeping the shop clean and organized, cataloging and storing scenic elements saved from
productions, and assisting with the load-in and strike of each production. They will also provide
any necessary training to seasonal staff as well as create and maintain a safe and healthy working
environment in the shop.
The ideal individual will have a strong drive to provide high-quality work, the ability to exercise
good judgment in a variety of situations, strong written and verbal communication,
organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of the team. Gulfshore Playhouse values hard

work extended hours on occasion when necessary to meet goals. Some weekend and evening
hours are required including attendance at performances, special events, and/or meetings that
may happen outside normal scheduled hours.
Skills:
● Understanding working drawings/elevations, cut lists, construction methods; pneumatics,
hand tools, power tools, adhesives, foams, metalworking, etc.
● Advanced knowledge of scenic construction techniques.
● Experience with power tools and construction equipment (saws, welding, etc.)
● Creative problem-solving
● Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
● Ability to manage time, staff and productivity effectively
● Ability to multitask and achieve tight deadlines
Duties:
● The prime responsibility includes leading scenic construction, rigging, and dry tech of
scenery in the scene shop.
● Reports directly to the Assistant Technical Director.
● In close collaboration with, and on a day-to-day basis, conducts the following with the
Assistant Technical Director:
- Discuss and understands the technical drawings.
- Discuss build schedule expectations.
- Communicates scenic engineering and construction to scene shop staff.
● Delegate projects in the scene shop to carpenters and technicians.
● Consult with the Assistant Technical Director when drawings are received.
● Manage scene shop workflow.
● Inform the Assistant Technical Director of any issues or concerns pertaining to areas of
responsibility.
● Maintain and ensure the build schedule.
● Verify that all projects are built to the drawings and quality level expected.
● Verify that all scenery has been built before load-in.
● With the Production Supervisor, verify that load-in and strike packages are prepared.
● With the ATD, Manage the shop space and maintenance of tools.
● Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean work/shop environment.
● Construct scenery as needed.
● Construct special projects as assigned.
● Assist with load-ins, strikes, and load-outs of all productions.
● Assist the Assistant Technical Director with supervising and training Seasonal Staff.
● Review, update, and maintain shop inventories.
● Maintain and repair scenery and shop equipment.
● Lead daily shop clean-up at the end of each day.
● Make shop related purchases as necessary with approval from the Technical Direction
team.
● Perform other related work as required.

Qualifications:
● 3 years of experience in the field
● Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
● Ability to work in and with proper personal protective equipment
● Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
● Ability to climb, ladders, mobile lifts, catwalks and work at heights
● Ability to work overhead with heavy equipment
● Ability to work in tight, enclosed spaces including ones in the air
● Ability to work in dark spaces
● Ability to stand for long periods of time depending on assignment
● Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools

Salary range: $56,000 - $60,000 annual salary. Exempt from overtime. DOE
