JOB TITLE: Properties Assistant
REPORTS TO: Properties Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
COMPENSATION RATE: $27.87 per hour
LOCATION: 363 W. Pershing Rd., Chicago, IL 60609
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Goodman Theatre seeks a Properties Assistant to join our production team for the 8-show season, including our annual production of A Christmas Carol. The position will work under the supervision of the Prop Supervisor to procure props and materials and assist in prop construction for all Goodman productions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Research and shop for period appropriate furniture and hand props
-Assist with shopping and ordering materials for prop construction
-Shop and deliver rehearsal furniture, hand props, and expendable props-- especially food items, as needed for rehearsals and performances
-Respond to daily needs of rehearsals
-Assist in the building of props as needed
-Participate in cleaning and maintaining prop work areas and storage spaces at the scene shop and theatre.
-Maintain prop equipment in those areas
-Participate in all load-ins and load-outs with Properties Supervisor and crew
-Work on specific projects, as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE:
-Minimum of 2 years of professional props experience with knowledge of period detail
-Must have a vehicle, applicable insurance, a valid driver+rsquo;s license and clean driving record.
-Able to work under pressure and respond efficiently to frequent changes during rehearsal and production
-Work independently and collaboratively as a team member and maintain a positive attitude
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office
-Proficient with Photoshop highly desirable
-Experience with hand and/or machine sewing and props crafts/construction is ideal
-Must be licensed to drive props and scenery vans
-Be available for overtime and weekend hours on an as needed basis
-Ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines
-Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. alone, or heavier objects with assistance
