Technical Director

Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a highly skilled Technical Director to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. This position works with world-class designers in the drafting, engineering, installation, and strike of all scenic elements for the remainder of our 2026 season. The Technical Director oversees the Assistant Technical Director,and technical teams during prep, load-ins and load-outs. This position requires a driven and passionate professional with strong communication and organizational skills, a working knowledge of scenic creation techniques, computer drafting programs, and a working knowledge of shop tools, safety and maintenance.

Responsibilities:
Read scripts and learn all aspects of the scenic elements
Manage the run crew and properties teams to provide all scenic support for productions and events throughout the BSC 2026 season
Collaborate with scenic designers to provide technical drawings, and source equipment to effectively create their designs in the theatre
Maintain accurate and up-to-date paperwork for each production including technical draftings and scenic cue sheets.
Consult with Production Management and creative teams to best meet the needs of the production and create accurate cost estimates of labor, materials, and rental costs during pre-production to remain within budget
Provide stand-in scenic elements for work in rehearsal studios as necessary
Coordinate and manage the load in and out of all scenic elements including supervising the staff of the stage crew, properties department, and any overhire staff needed.
Coordinate with other departments to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness when planning load-ins or changeovers
Provide Production Management with accurate load-in/out and changeover paperwork
Train run crew in any scenic moves or changes as necessary
Assist in the repair of scenic elements as needed
Maintain a safe working environment in all production areas.
Attend rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and production meetings as needed, and promptly respond to notes given throughout the rehearsal process
Assist in the maintenance of equipment and inventory, inclusive of building infrastructure, and suggest improvements as needed.
Organize and maintain rigging and scenic materials
Accurately track expenses and provide expenditure reports to Production Management in a timely manner
Maintains clear and consistent communication with Production Management and other Department Heads to ensure effective collaboration throughout the season


Skills:
Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Extensive and high-quality drafting skills
Candidates should have solid hands-on carpentry skills including metalwork
Experience with welding
Experience with rigging
Experience working with CNC machines + software
Extensive experience with counterweight fly systems and rigging
Candidates must have the physical ability to perform the skills and responsibilities mentioned above.
Excellent time management skills.
Proficient with Vectorworks/AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Acrobat
Driver+rsquo;s License required
Must be able to lift 50lbs solo, +gt;50lbs team lift
Will be exposed to long hours/work weeks,unusual working hours(late nights and early mornings) outdoor elements, flashing lights

This position reports to Production Management. It is a full-time, seasonal position.

Salary is $1200-$1300 per week, non-exempt, commensurate with experience, with housing available($100 payroll deduction wkly)
