Position Summary:
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Lighting/Sound/Projection Director+rsquo;s primary role is to serve as a liaison between lighting, sound, and projection designers and all other production departments. As director, this position is responsible for coordinating, planning, budgeting, maintaining and implementing all of the lighting, sound, and projection needs for our unique two-city operation. This position is a member of the production department director team and is responsible for representing their production department to the production management team and ATC as a whole.
Key responsibilities include:
+bull; Planning, organizing, and running the lighting, sound, and projection department in both cities.
+bull; Assigning daily work tasks and supervising timekeeping of lighting, sound, and projection Stagehands.
+bull; Coordinating and supervising all over-hire + I.A.T.S.E. Stagehand calls with production management.
+bull; Maintaining department budgets and daily bookkeeping. Lead cost estimates and purchasing/renting of all lighting, sound, and projection equipment according to specific production and departmental needs within budget limits.
+bull; Ensuring artistic integrity for lighting, sound, and projection designs throughout run of show in Tucson and when shows transfer to Tempe/Phoenix in order to maintain designers+rsquo; original designs.
+bull; Coordinating interdepartmental design elements with other production departments.
+bull; Responding to rehearsal reports and notes in a timely and effective manner.
+bull; Taking notes and communicating needs and feedback from guest Lighting, Sound, and Projection Designers.
+bull; Attending all production meetings and technical, dress rehearsal, preview note sessions and other team meetings as required.
+bull; Participating in planning presentations, special events, and third-party rentals as needed.
+bull; Supervising departmental inventory and managing allocation of equipment between overlapping productions and between Temple of Music and Art and Tempe Center for the Arts.
+bull; Updating, generating, and maintaining all departmental documentation.
+bull; Coordinating with stage management to schedule all actor recording sessions.
+bull; Collaborating with production management to ensure that production adheres to all Equity rules regarding atmospherics.
+bull; Communicating with production management regarding capital equipment upgrade needs.
+bull; Ensuring all safety protocols are being upheld in alignment with the ATC Safety Manual.
+bull; Providing mentorship and professional development opportunities for direct reports.
+bull; Promoting and cultivating a safe and organized work environment.
+bull; Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Skills, and Attributes:
+bull; Knowledge of standards and safe practices regarding theatrical electrical, sound, projections, atmospherics, and fundamental rigging.
+bull; Maintains knowledge of industry advancements in lighting, sound, and projections.
+bull; Skilled with lighting, projection, sound related software such as: Vectorworks, Lightwright, ETC light board, network-based lighting and projections systems, Watchout media server, Qlab, Dante, Wireless Workbench, Adobe Audition, Yamaha sound mixer, etc.
+bull; Experience in resource and budget management.
+bull; Attentive to detail, accountable, and skilled in time management.
+bull; Experience with touring or transferring productions to multiple venues.
+bull; Experience in I.A.T.S.E crew leadership.
+bull; Effective communicator with directors, designers, actors, staff, and over-hire.
+bull; Commitment to ATC+rsquo;s mission, values, and to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and equitable workplace.
+bull; Skilled in basic office software.
Physical Demands and Scheduling Requirements:
+bull; Ability to work from heights.
+bull; Schedule varies based on production needs and may require working nights and weekends. Workdays could be long and could include long periods of time either sitting or standing.
+bull; Short Tempe/Phoenix residencies required based on production schedules.
