The Production Electrician reports to Yale Schwarzman Center Technical Director. Reviews technical
drawings; ensures safe and efficient operation of the YSC equipment and spaces; and engages in the
construction, installation, and strike of lighting elements for all YSC Production and related events.
Carries out duties while exercising a large degree of autonomy and discretion, maintaining high
standards for safety and customer service.
Serve as Production Electrician for YSC production and related events.
Serve as Programmer as needed for YSC production and related events.
Review production related technical drawings, providing guidance on materials, methods, and technical design choices. Assist with the bid process of rentals as needed and assigned.
In concert with YSC Director of Production (DOP)and Technical Director (TD), plan the sequence of projects to maintain safety and efficiency.
Instruct staff, students, and casual/temporary employee crews on the proper use of YSC tools and equipment, ensuring compliance with known health and safety guidelines.
Participate in the installation, focus, note sessions, and strike of YSC related productions and events as assigned by the DOP or TD.
Identify and prioritize maintenance and repair of shops, tools, and equipment.
Oversee working crews of students and casual labor to ensure the completion of developed production plans, call breaks as appropriate, and advise on crew personnel.
Develop and update technical drawings as needed in either AutoCAD or Vectorworks.
Use a variety of complex tools, processes, materials, and equipment in completing assigned projects.
Transport equipment as needed.
Attend meetings as appropriate.
In conjunction with DOP and TD, oversee the installation, focus, and removal of lighting equipment at load-in, notes sessions, technical rehearsals, and strike of productions and related events.
Help develop plans for the safe and efficient use of storage and workspaces.
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Advance skills of Electronic Theatre Control (ETC). Proficiency in drafting using Vectorworks.
2. Collaborate effectively with a variety of partners at a professional level. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
3. Calm and collected under pressure with a strongly demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, follow schedules, and follow rapid instructions. Demonstrated ability to receive and operate cues during technical rehearsals and performance.
4. Knowledge of job-related health and safety issues and ability to identify potential hazards.
5. Skills in planning productions or events in a theatrical environment. Demonstrated ability to
supervise projects and people.
Required Education and Experience
1. Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
2. Professional or graduate-level experience as a theatrical lighting electrician.
