The Position
The Assistant Lead Technician is primarily responsible for assisting the Lead Technician and production staff with supporting visiting artists with a can-do, adaptable attitude while maintaining a respectful and safe work environment.
You will lead the day-to-day installation, programming, and operation of lighting systems for all productions, while also installing and operating other production equipment across other departments as needed. You'll work closely with the Lead Technician, Technical Production Manager, and Production Coordinator to ensure all assigned tasks are completed. Additionally, you will be supporting administrative tasks, including crew scheduling and payroll as assigned by the Lead Technician in their absence.
This position works under New 42's Collective Bargaining Agreement with IATSE Local 1. Rate: $37.77 per hour and a guarantee of 32 weeks per contract year.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Arrive on time and ready to work at the start of each call.
Communicate effectively with crew, production staff, designers, and visiting companies.
Assist the Lead Technician in managing stagehand crews during crew calls.

Ensure all tasks are completed professionally and in adherence to safety protocols, including OSHA standards.
Prep and Install lighting equipment, operate the lighting console for most productions.
Plan and prepare for upcoming load-ins to meet show and technical requirements.
Coordinate installation and operation of production elements; set up, operate, and maintain stage systems including counterweight fly systems, chain hoists, lighting, audio, and video.
Train and mentor stagehands and Roundabout TWDP Fellows in safe, proper equipment use.
Maintain production equipment and inventories; propose and implement equipment maintenance and improvements, and keep maintenance records current.
In the Lead Technician's absence, coordinate with the Technical Production Manager on crew scheduling (matching skills like electrics, carpentry, and rigging to call needs) and prepare accurate daily timesheets per the Local 1 CBA for weekly payroll submission.
Perform other departmental duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge and Qualifications:
English language fluency
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and re-prioritize with accuracy around the needs of multiple projects.
4 years professional technical theater experience.
Able to work calmly under pressure and adapt seamlessly to the dynamic needs of live theater, with strong organizational, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills +mdash; and the leadership to inspire the same in others.
Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by production schedules.
Computer literacy with relevant show software (ETC Eos, ETC Networking, ETC Paradigm, Lightwright) and Google Suite. Working understanding of audio, video, and network signal flow for live production systems. New 42 will provide additional training as needed.
Skilled in setting up, operating, and maintaining lighting systems, with additional experience hanging, circuiting, and focusing large lighting plots. Committed to staying current with emerging trends and technology.

This position must be able to carry 50lbs individually, or heavier as part of a group lift. The position will require a wide range of physical movements including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, etc. in the performance of daily activities. There will be work at height on genie lifts, ladders, or catwalks and there needs to be comfort working in low lighting situations where scenic elements move positions through a show. The position requires night and weekend work and the schedule changes week to week based on the production load in/tech/performance schedule.
