Choreographer for Mean Girls

Position Overview

California State University Channel Islands is seeking an experienced Choreographer for its upcoming collegiate production of Mean Girls.

The Choreographer will work closely with the Director and Musical Director to create and teach choreography appropriate to the production, the cast's abilities, and the overall artistic vision of the show.

Schedule

Auditions/Rehearsals Begin: Week of August 24, 2026

Regular Rehearsals: Tuesdays + Thursdays, 6:00 PM to 8:50 PM, plus up to 2 additional evenings per week (Wednesdays, Fridays, and/or Saturdays TBD).

Schedule Flexibility: The Choreographer is not needed for every hour or every rehearsal day. Specific choreography calls will be scheduled based on the production's needs.

Tech / Dress Week: November 7 through November 10, 2026

Commitment Term: Late August through November 2026

Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Director and Musical Director to develop the movement and choreography for the production.

Choreograph musical numbers and movement sequences appropriate to the production's concept and the abilities of the cast.

Teach choreography clearly and efficiently to a collegiate cast with varying levels of dance experience.

Attend scheduled choreography rehearsals and production meetings as needed.
Work with the Stage Manager and production team to establish and maintain an efficient rehearsal schedule.

Clean and refine choreography throughout the rehearsal process.

Attend required technical and dress rehearsals.
Qualifications

Previous choreography experience in musical theatre.

Strong communication and teaching skills.

Ability to work effectively with performers of varying dance and movement experience.

Collaborative and flexible approach to the rehearsal process.

Experience working in educational, collegiate, community, or professional theatre environments preferred.
