Stage Technician (On-Call)

About the Position
Stanford Live is seeking experienced Stage Technicians to join our on-call labor pool. Stage Technicians provide technical support for concerts, rehearsals, lectures, special events, and performances across Stanford Live venues. We are building a diverse pool of skilled technicians with experience in general stage operations, lighting, and audio/video who enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced live performance environment.
This is an on-call position with no guaranteed minimum number of hours. Work is assigned based on production needs and individual availability. Most assignments occur during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
In this role, you will:
Provide technical support for concerts, performances, rehearsals, lectures, and special events presented by Stanford Live.
Work under the direction of Stanford Live production staff to support productions at Bing Concert Hall, Frost Amphitheater, Memorial Auditorium, and other Stanford venues.
Assist with event load-ins, setup, rehearsals, performances, changeovers, strikes, and load-outs.
Set up, operate, and maintain stage, lighting, audio, and video equipment according to assigned duties.
Assemble and disassemble staging, risers, orchestra equipment, soft goods, scenic elements, and other production equipment.
Load, unload, transport, and safely handle production equipment, artist backline, and event materials.
Operate theatrical equipment safely and efficiently while following established production procedures.
Collaborate professionally with Stanford Live staff, visiting artists, touring crews, faculty, students, and vendors.
Maintain a safe, organized, and clean backstage and work environment.
Follow all Stanford University and Stanford Live safety policies and procedures.
Perform other production-related duties as assigned.
To be successful, you will bring:
High school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in theater, concert production, live events, or related technical production work. Additional education or specialized training is a plus.
Experience in one or more areas of live event production, including lighting, audio/video, stage operations, or general production.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a professional production crew.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse colleagues, artists, and guests.
Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing production priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of safe working practices in theatrical and live event environments.
Experience with theatrical lighting systems, audio systems, digital consoles, video systems, or stage equipment is desirable.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an inclusive working environment.
Experience in classical music and orchestra production is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
Ability to work at heights (4+ndash;80 feet) using ladders, personnel lifts, or catwalks as required.
Ability to work in environments with noise, dust, vibration, moving machinery, and changing environmental conditions.
Working Conditions
This is an on-call position with hours scheduled according to event and production needs.
Evening, weekend, holiday, and extended-hour availability is required.
Exposure to performance-related environments exceeding 80 dBA TWA (hearing protection provided).
When conducting university business, employees must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.
