Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG) seeks an experienced House Electrician to join our production team for the 2026 - 2027 season.

This position is ideal for a highly skilled electrician who enjoys working in a collaborative producing environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional production support across a diverse season of plays, musicals, concerts, and special events.

The House Electrician is a key member of the Production Department, working closely with the Director of Productions, Lighting Designers, Stage Managers, and fellow technicians to ensure the successful implementation, operation, and maintenance of all lighting systems across Berkshire Theatre Group's venues.

This role is best suited to a candidate with prior experience as a Head Electrician or Lighting Supervisor who is equally comfortable leading crews, collaborating with designers, programming lighting systems, and solving technical challenges in a fast-paced producing environment.

Reports To: Director of Productions
Dates: August 27, 2026 - May 29, 2027 (approximate; subject to change)
Possible Extension: through the 2027 Summer Season
Compensation: $750 - $800/week (commensurate with experience); housing may be provided for non-local hires.

Primary Responsibilities
- Interpret lighting plots, prepare budgets, coordinate rentals and borrowed equipment, and communicate directly with lighting designers to ensure designs are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Serve as House Electrician for all assigned productions, concerts, rentals, and special events.
- Busk lighting for Colonial Theatre concerts and events as assigned.
- Operate QLab to trigger sound and video cues for assigned productions in collaboration with the Audio + Projections Supervisor.
- Lead the hang, focus, maintenance, troubleshooting, and strike of all lighting systems while fostering a safe, organized, and collaborative work environment.
- Program and operate an ETC Ion lighting console as required.
- Install, program, and maintain practical lighting, atmospheric effects, and special effects.
- Maintain, repair, and organize Berkshire Theatre Group's lighting inventory and equipment.
- Coordinate equipment rentals and borrowing relationships with neighboring organizations.
- Review technical riders, advance incoming events, evaluate equipment and staffing needs, and provide recommendations for electrical crew requirements.
- Determine installation methods and construction details for production lighting systems.
- Attend technical rehearsals, production meetings, and other production-related meetings as assigned.
- Track departmental budgets and maintain project task lists.
- Assist with concerts, rentals, and special events throughout the season.
- Perform additional production duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Required
- Previous experience as a Head Electrician, House Electrician, Lighting Supervisor, or equivalent professional position (Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre or related field preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets)
- Proficiency programming and operating ETC Eos family consoles
- Prior experience busking live events on ETC Ion console
- Vectorworks drafting experience
- Experience using Lightwright 6, including Vectorworks data exchange
- Strong knowledge of lighting networking, DMX distribution, and lighting control troubleshooting
- Experience with LED tape installation, soldering, splicing, programming, and troubleshooting
- Working knowledge of portable power distribution and tie-ins
- Working knowledge of safe counterweight fly system operation
- Advanced understanding of electrical theory
- Experience maintaining and cleaning LED fixtures and automated lighting equipment
- General soldering and electrical repair experience
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to safely work from personnel lifts, ladders, and elevated positions

Preferred
- Experience with ETC Eos Show Control protocols (OSC, MIDI)
- Advanced networking and IT knowledge
- Experience working in a professional producing theatre or seasonal festival environment

The Berkshires is a nationally recognized and deeply collaborative arts community, with multiple organizations working together each season to support high-quality theatre production. As part of this regional partnership, Berkshire Theatre Group occasionally collaborates with neighboring theatres by sharing resources such as props, equipment, scenic elements, and, at times, staff support. House Electricians may occasionally be assigned to assist with work calls at partner theatres in the region. These assignments are considered part of regular employment with Berkshire Theatre Group and count toward the employee's weekly work hours. When this occurs, schedules at BTG will be adjusted accordingly.
