As a member of the Artistic + Production Department, the Technical Director oversees the operation of scene shop activities and execution of all scenery for productions and presentations at Mosaic Theater Company.
This is a full-time position, reporting to the Director of Production Management.
The Technical Director directly supervises the Lead Carpenter, scenic artists, and overhire labor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage all aspects of the planning, build, load-in, tech and maintenance of scenery and technical needs for all productions and events at Mosaic Theater. (Mosaic+rsquo;s upcoming season consists of 5 plays.)
Lead builds, load-ins, technical rehearsals, and strikes as an active member of the team.
Create time and material estimates, technical drawings, schedules, and other plans and documentation related to productions.
Work creatively with designers to align their design intent with budget and labor constraints.
Help Mosaic and its designers achieve a high degree of excellence in scenic artistry.
Hire and supervise Scenic Painters, carpentry, and overhire crews for productions and other Mosaic-produced events.
Coordinate schedules for build and load-in with related production departments.
Oversee purchasing and/or acquisition of production related materials as necessary.
Regularly attend and participate in pre-production meetings, staff meetings, production meetings during rehearsal and tech, post-mortems, etc.
Maintain departmental budgets for projects as they develop, in conjunction with the Director of Production Management.
Maintain scenic inventory and manage storage of it.
Maintain and grow a list of overhire carpenters and painters.
Assist Director of Production Management in developing production calendar and budgets, creating safety protocols, and establishing and maintaining departmental standards and procedures.
Manage and provide professional development for educational partners and apprentices.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Mosaic Theater Company is seeking an individual with considerable talent, passion for the theatre, and ability to advance institutional aims. We expect a candidate will have:
Appropriate professional theatre experience in technical direction or related fields.
Advanced knowledge of scenery construction techniques, including structural design calculations, and of Autocad and/or Vectorworks.
Ability to read, create, manipulate, and interpret drawings and other technical materials.
Familiarity with rigging techniques and practices with an emphasis on safety.
Ability to manage expenditures and budgets.
Ability to create schedules and meet deadlines.
Ideally able to drive standard trucks.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead teams with clear direction and respect.

Willingness to work on a dynamic and flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
SALARY: $65,000+
