New Federal Theatre (NFT) is a small, nonprofit professional theatre company based in New York City, dedicated to producing work that reflects the diversity of the human experience and providing a launching pad for artists of color and women. For decades, NFT has been a vital home for playwrights, directors, and performers, and a cultural anchor for the communities it serves.

To integrate artists of color and women into the mainstream of American theater by training artists for the profession and by presenting plays by writers of color and women to integrated, multicultural audiences. These plays evoke the truth through beautiful and artistic re-creations of ourselves.
--The Opportunity--
New Federal Theatre is seeking a General Manager to lead the day-to-day administrative, financial, and operational functions of the company. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a small-team, mission-driven environment and wants to grow with the organization. The General Manager will work closely with the Producing Artistic Director, Elizabeth Van Dyke and Board of Directors.
--Key Responsibilities--
Oversee daily business operations of the theatre .
Oversee organizational budgets, cash flow, and financial reporting in partnership with Arts FMS.
Negotiate and manage contracts with artists, vendors, and unions (e.g., Actors' Equity, SDC)
Support fundraising efforts, including grant tracking, donor records, and reporting deadlines in partnership with Advance Collective.
Coordinate production logistics, scheduling, and venue relationships in partnership with Producing Artistic Director.
Supervise administrative and part-time staff; support human resources functions.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulatory, insurance, and reporting requirements.
Serve as a key liaison to the Board of Directors, preparing materials and attending meetings as needed
Partner with the Producing Artistic Director on strategic and season planning.
--Qualifications--
3-5+ years of arts administration, nonprofit management, or general management experience (theatre experience strongly preferred).
Strong financial and budget management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small-team setting.
Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising and grant processes a plus.
Genuine interest in and commitment to NFT's mission.
--Compensation + Benefits--
Salary range: $75,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience.
