Apeiro Design provides planning, programming, architectural design, and theatre consulting services for performing arts and immersive entertainment venues. The firm+rsquo;s work includes opera houses, professional repertory theatres, concert halls, performing arts training facilities, museums, planetariums, theme parks, casinos, cruise ships, nightclubs, and educational institutions from K-6 through universities.
POSITION SUMMARY
Apeiro Design is seeking an Associate with architectural training and experience designing performing arts facilities. This role works directly with Senior Associates, Associate Principals, and Principals to support all phases of project design and consulting services. Responsibilities include design management, design, and documentation for performing arts and immersive entertainment projects. The position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, documentation skills, and interpersonal communication. Domestic and international travel may be required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Associate will be responsible for the following:
Provide primary room design services for performing arts and immersive entertainment venues, including audience chamber design, conceptual room shaping, theatrical system spatial requirements, acoustical requirements, architectural finishes, seating layouts, sightline studies, and code compliance review.
Coordinate with architectural, structural, acoustical, and MEP team members to support project coordination.
Prepare site massing, adjacency studies, and room layouts for dressing rooms, control rooms, AV rack rooms, dimmer rooms, and other project-specific spaces.
Work on multiple projects of varying size and complexity at the same time.
Manage projects and collaborate with studio staff, Senior Associates, Associate Principals, and Principals.
Coordinate and collaborate with architects and engineers outside the office.
Maintain positive and productive relationships with clients, including owners, developers, and architects.
Support timely deliverables within project schedules and scoped services.
Provide design and production support across project areas and disciplines.
Create CAD and Revit documents when needed to support production staff.
Prepare and edit specifications.
Participate in the development of project work, technical standards, and deliverables.
Review shop drawings, submittal drawings, and compliance testing documents for systems within Apeiro Design+rsquo;s scope of work.
Support repeat business with existing clients and develop peer relationships that may lead to future business.
Protect the security and confidentiality of project and intellectual property information.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KEY COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
Qualified candidates should have the following skills and competencies:
Strong computer skills, including 5+ years of experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
Experience with SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Familiarity with theatrical lighting, rigging, stage machinery, audio, video, communication systems, and distribution infrastructure or network technologies.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a creative studio environment.
Strong visual, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and productively as a self-starter.
Knowledge of basic clerical practices and procedures.
Initiative, independent judgment, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain effective under pressure.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of project and intellectual property information.
DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Preferred qualifications include:
5+ years of experience in performing arts production, live performance design, facilities systems design, or architectural design services.
Baccalaureate degree in theatre production, technical management, architectural design, engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
Strong reputation within the industry.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
This position includes the following working conditions and requirements:
Position may be based out of the San Francisco or New York office.
Work is performed in a general office and creative studio environment.
Primary schedule is Monday through Friday, with nights and weekends as needed for project deadlines. The current hybrid in-office schedule is Tuesday through Thursday.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide identification sufficient to complete all necessary government forms.

Ability to safely, frequently, and independently move and handle twenty-five pounds.
Ability to work in low-light environments typical of backstage areas.
Ability to move safely and independently at construction work sites.

Ability to communicate clearly by telephone.
Must be able to regularly speak and write in English.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, middle-distance vision, and color vision.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Apeiro Design offers the following compensation and benefits:
Anticipated salary range: $93,000-$101,000, dependent upon qualifications.
