Second Audio Engineer (A2) (Partial Season, August 24 - September 27, 2026) +ndash; Job Description
The Sharon Playhouse, the historic, professional, nonprofit theater located in the foothills of the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, is seeking to fill the role of Second Audio Engineer for the remainder of its 2026 season. The Sharon Playhouse offers you the opportunity to work alongside professional artists from NYC, the tri-state area, and beyond. Our upcoming MainStage season includes Swingtime Canteen, 42nd Street and Come From Away, as well as, our Spotlight Gala, Writer+rsquo;s Playground and a special reading of The Divine Sister. Our YouthStage season includes Pooh+rsquo;s Parade, Matilda Jr., Big Bad, Shrek, Kids, the Launchpad Company production of Zombie Prom, and a school partnership production of Shrek, Kids with Indian Mountain School.
The Second Audio Engineer reports to the Technical Director, Sound Designer, Audio Engineer.
The Second Audio Engineer (A2) reports to the First Audio Engineer and the Season Sound Designer.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Assist with audio preparation, strike/changeover, programming and A/V operations for specific produced events at the Sharon Playhouse.
- Assist A1 (sound-board operator) for Come From Away.
- Assist with the repair and maintenance of the playhouse inventory.
- Participates in cross-departmental production and venue support, as needed, to ensure overall success of all event and venue operations.
- This position plays an active role in supporting and mentoring Sharon Playhouse apprentices, sharing knowledge and guidance in your area of expertise to foster their growth and development.
- Be patient, communicative, and adaptable when working with children, ensuring they feel comfortable using microphones and helping them navigate live sound cues with confidence.
Specific Duties:
- Assist with MainStage productions: Come From Away
- Assist with YouthStage productions: The Launchpad Company production of Zombie Prom.
- Assist with Special Events: The Divine Sister, Writers Playground
- Assist with other departments and duties as needed by Production Management and Playhouse Staff
Qualifications:
- Applicants should have excellent organizational and time-management skills, and be computer proficient, specifically with audio control software.
- Prior experience in audio engineering is a plus.
- Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently, excellent organizational and time-management skills, a positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.
- Familiarity with wireless microphone systems and frequency management.
Ability to troubleshoot audio issues during performances.
- Familiarity with sound amps and guitar tuning preferred.
Dates of employment are from August 24 - September 27, 2026. This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Compensation is structured as a weekly consideration of $450 and will be prorated based on arrival date and total weeks worked. The Sharon Playhouse is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
