BASIC PURPOSE:
Costume Assistant is responsible for assisting in maintaining the original design, fit and finish of all costumes in Norwegian Cruise Lines production shows, assist the Costume Lead and Wardrobe Supervisors in all aspects of show remounts, and partner with Costume Shop Manager on alterations, rehabs and new builds for show. The Costume Assistant is responsible for ordering product, assisting in all fittings, meeting deadlines, and supervising the packing, inventory and loadout of show traveling to ships.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the costume lead in the supervision of the wardrobe supervisors, provide guidance throughout the total process of remounting a production show for their ship. Provide training on processes and forms needed to facilitate. Utilize their expertise to fit and alter costumes in a timely manner within deadline, on or below budget.
Assist in the preparation of weekly work projects and hours worked for Wardrobe Supervisors, while in the Creative Studios.
Request size information from performer once casting is completed to ensure proper pulling of costume inventory.
Ensure without fail that all local and companywide safety measures and Covid guidelines are adhered to at all times.
Pull and set up shows for all ships assigned starting at least 3 weeks before cast arrival.
Sourcing/fitting of all footwear for productions, maintenance, painting, dying and stocking. Work with Craft team on all special needs for foot wear and accessories.
Facilitate execution of inhouse laundry washing, (hand + machine wash) ironing, steaming, pressing, categorizing laundry by show.
Working with the creative production team to mount new productions.
Maintain working knowledge of costumes on board including as needed creation of costume reference archives (Bibles) for new build shows.
Assist in dressing and creating backstage tracks during dress rehearsals.
Responsible for working with Wardrobe Supervisors on timely packing of road boxes and cross reference inventory sheets.
Intermittent travel within the fleet to assist in Quality Assurance Checks of onboard operations.
Perform other job-related functions as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION: Bachelor+rsquo;s degree with a major in Theatrical Costuming or Theatrical management preferred; or any equivalent combination of relevant and work-related skills and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Prefer significant costume shop experience in theatrical costume building and alteration,
OR
Minimum 1-2 years of experience as wardrobe supervisor or assistant on tour or in summer stock companies,
OR
Minimum 1-2years of cruise ship experience as wardrobe supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE + SKILLS: Expertise in theatrical/fashion history and costume production. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of cruise ship entertainment operations. Knowledge of costume shop management practices and principles. Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts, including remote team onboard ships. Sound problem-solving skills and ability to manage budget per established guidelines.
