*Position Title: Assistant Technical Director
*Position Dates: Full Time, generally Monday - Friday 8:30a-4:30p, with occasional evenings and weekends, to begin August 1, 2026

Philadelphia Scenic Works (PSW) is the nation+rsquo;s first independent, non-profit (501c3) scene shop. We work with arts organizations all over the Greater Philadelphia area to build projects that advance their missions. At the same time, we are investing in building a healthy, sustainable workforce, and innovative resource sharing. We work on 40-60 projects a year, mostly for small non-profit theater companies and high schools.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Assistant Technical Director works with the Technical Director, Shop Foreman, + Scenic Charge to facilitate the production process. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

*Under the direction of the Technical Director, prepare quotes, engineer designs, draft build drawings, handle purchasing, and create logistics plans (such as staffing + trucking) for select projects.
*In coordination with the Shop Foreman and Scenic Charge, oversee the build process of select projects, delegating tasks, supervising carpenters, and coordinating paint logistics with the Scenic Charge for these projects.
*Lead select load-in, load-out, and notes calls.
*Problem solve and develop solutions for select projects.
*Serve as a leader and key member of the carpentry team building scenery in the shop
*Pack trucks and lead crews in packing trucks.
*Keep workspaces clean and perform longer term projects to improve functionality of workspaces through regular improvements and organization.
*Drive trucks when necessary, within reason of comfortability, and with hope of eventually being able to drive a 26+rsquo; box truck.
*Follow best PPE practices and help maintain a culture of safety.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should meet all of these qualifications to apply.

*Demonstrated experience in the construction of scenery using a variety theatrical woodworking techniques.
*Ability to read and draft in CAD ground plans, designer drawings, and shop drawings
*Ability to comfortably drive up to a 26+rsquo; Box Truck
*Basic rigging skills
*Good teamwork skills
