Prairie Repertory Theatre is seeking carpenters for the 2026 summer season.
Contract dates are May 17+ndash;July 22, 2026, with some flexibility for the start date. All positions include:
A $2,000 scholarship
On-campus housing
One transferable class credit
As an educational program, Prairie Repertory Theatre welcomes all levels of experience. The only requirements are motivation and interest.
Carpenters work in the scene shop to build, load in, and strike scenery for three productions. Responsibilities include following safe work practices, using standard construction techniques, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Prairie Repertory Theatre is a collaborative company where everyone works together to create the best productions possible. All company members are assigned a work area to report to when not in rehearsal.
Typical work hours are:
Monday+ndash;Friday: 9:00 a.m.+ndash;7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m.+ndash;4:00 p.m.
There is no scheduled work on Sundays, with the exception of July 5 following the Fourth of July holiday.
General Information About PRT
The 2026 season runs from May 17+ndash;July 22, 2026. Company members participate for the full season.
The 2026 season includes: Fiddler on the Roof, Plaza Suite, and Frozen.
PRT operates in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the campus of South Dakota State University.
Participants will be registered for one credit of THEA 480 through SDSU. This provides access to campus housing, the wellness center, and other student benefits. Registration is handled automatically.
Daily work hours are typically divided into three blocks:
9:00 a.m.+ndash;12:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m.+ndash;3:50 p.m.
4:10 p.m.+ndash;7:00 p.m.
