The Maui Arts + Cultural Center is seeking a qualified candidate for immediate hire for the position of LIGHTING DIRECTOR. This position reports directly to the Technical Director and indirectly to the CEO.

The Maui Arts + Cultural Center opened in 1994 as the culmination of a long-standing dream of Maui's residents to build a world-class gathering place for the arts. Now familiarly known as "The MACC," this center has been described by The Maui News as "artistic and educational heart of an entire community" and "Maui's entertainment and arts crown jewel."

The MACC is a diverse facility that includes:
- 1200 Seat Proscenium Theater
- 250+ Seat Blackbox Theater
- Outdoor Amphitheater with a capacity of 4000+ seated or 5500+ GA
- Plus several additional ancillary event spaces + meeting rooms

Job Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Maintain multiple venues lighting needs, including troubleshooting and repairs
- Maintain and repair moving lights, LEDs and conventional fixtures
- Fulfill the role of System Tech, Console Operator or both when required, depending on size/scope of event
- Fulfill the role of Lighting Designer, when required
- Busk and program cues on multiple consoles
- Work with touring LDs on advancing + completing pre-hangs, while keeping in mind how to make a different plot work through multiple different shows at times.
- Work with both hardline DMX and networked lighting systems
- Crew Chief/Master Electrician role to hang and circuit plots, focus fixtures
- Use Vectorworks to maintain up-to-date house plots, translate touring LD needs, + et al
- Coordinates with other department heads for smooth advancing, load-ins, strikes
- Cable building + repair
- Train crew on hang, circuit, focus, program, and spotlight operation when necessary
- Secure third party rentals as needed
- Maintain + replenish stock on lamps, gels, and fluids
- Attend all meetings as assigned
- Assist other departments as assigned
- Show enthusiasm in work + show content, including but not limited to understanding and supporting the Hawaiian culture, cultivating client relationships.
- Working as required- extended hours, nights, weekends, holidays
- Research/proposals to upgrade existing systems when possible
- Have an innate understanding of crew numbers and needs for lighting department
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
- 5-10 years of Lighting Design + Programming experience in professional theater and/or corporate events; 3-5 years will be considered for the right candidate
- Strong working knowledge of tying in power up to 400Amps, proper procedures for connecting/disconnecting feeder
- Familiarity with dimmer systems- cleaning, maintenance and repair
- Expert at reading and executing lighting plots, ground plans
- Knowledge of Lighting Network systems - permanent and temporary installations (how they work and how to work with them)
- Basic working knowledge of theatrical rigging including safety and operation of linesets in a single purchase hemp house. Strong priority given to candidates with previous experience in a fly house.
- Basic working knowledge and safety procedures surrounding rigging with chain motors in relation to lighting truss install
- Familiarity with MACC owned consoles: ETC Ion, grandMA2, M2Go (Onyx), ETC Expression.
- Able to lift upwards of 50 - 80lbs
- Valid driver+rsquo;s license

Other preferred skills:
- Self-motivated individual able to work on multiple projects in multiple venues often, including sometimes fast-paced and stressful environments
- Must work well and communicate clearly with people from all walks of life (including coworkers and clients) with poise, patience, and a collaborative attitude- in person and via email
- Knowledge of proper lighting designing for all skin tones
- Understanding of Hawaiian Culture, with a strong understanding of what is considered respectful and disrespectful. This position works with Hawaiian Practitioners often.
