Job Summary
The resident stage hand plays a pivotal role in the production needs of Pius XI Catholic High School events. Reporting to the Theatre Manager, this position provides support for all events in the PAC, Black Box Theatre and elsewhere on campus. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with adolescents and be committed to helping students grow creatively, and confidently. This individual will thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working as part of a dynamic and positive Fine Arts department.
Responsibilities and Functions:
Maintain a focus on safety, ensuring all safety policies and rules are followed by everyone, including but not limited to the use of PPE.
Plan and execute technical needs for productions and events that occur in the Wendy Joy Lindsey Theater, Pre-event space, and Black Box, including, but not limited to lighting, audio, projections, and staging plans.
Set-up and operate audio, lighting, and other AV equipment for school assemblies, masses, and other events occurring on campus, as needed.
Set-up tables, chairs and other equipment as needed.
Train, and supervise Student Technical Crew, and volunteer staff for events.
Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory and maintenance records of lighting, audio, and other equipment and tools for the Wendy Joy Lindsey Theater and Black Box Theater.
Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies.
Ensure routine maintenance and upkeep of PAC equipment and tools.
Ensure the proper execution of the Performing Arts Center emergency plan.
Assist with repairs and maintenance as needed and directed.
General maintenance, including trash disposal, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and organizing.
Maintain a positive relationship with stakeholders and collaborate with others in use of the facilities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Adherence to school safety programs, emergency plans, and facility use policies.
Ability to meet deadlines, and budget requirements.
Must be able to self-direct, prioritize, and collaborate effectively.
Must be able to problem-solve under pressure.
Knowledge and experience in events, carpentry, theatrical lighting, sound systems, and projections.
Use of Google Workspace, as well as Microsoft Office.
Experience working with Dante Audio, Windows and Mac computers, ETC lighting systems, and Q-lab.
Prefer experience with Vector Works, or other CAD programs.
Basic understanding and skills in rigging.
Use and care of hand and power tools.
Safe use of ladders, and lifts.
Must pass paid Safe Environments training through the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, before starting position.
Abilities:
This position requires the ability to work long hours
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (often 50 to 75+ lbs.) to push, pull and work on your feet for extended periods.
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Ability to work at heights, by use of ladders, steep stairs, scaffolding, lifts and platforms.
Ability to work while stooping, kneeling, and bending, often with repetitive motions.
Ability to safely operate manual and power tools.
Good vision, with the ability to see in dark environments, and see colors.
Good hearing to be able to communicate with others.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
