The Props Designer and Fabricator, a member of the Props Team within the Production Department, plays a crucial role in the creation, tracking, and maintenance of props for Hale Centre Theatre productions. Reporting to the Property Manager, the position collaborates closely with other Fabricators, Set Designers, and production team members to get a production ready for success.

The role+rsquo;s responsibilities include meeting with the Property Manager, fellow team members, prop and set designers, and discussing the tasks, props, or set items required for various productions. They are entrusted with the understanding and execution of assigned tasks, utilizing a diverse range of materials and techniques to create or embellish the items designed and needed for each show. Due to the scope of certain tasks, teamwork is essential, and the Fabricator must possess the ability to work effectively in a group setting.

In addition to prop fabrication, the candidate may also be assigned as the Prop Designer for various productions. For this aspect of the job, candidates must demonstrate a keen creative eye as well as outstanding organization skills and time management. They must show the ability to work with a team to create a unified design that supports the Director+rsquo;s vision.

Typical tasks for a Fabricator may encompass (but are not limited to):

Attending production-related meetings as required
Retrieving and preparing necessary props from stock for Designers
Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the prop workshop area and personal work spaces
Conducting historical research to ensure props align with the time period of the production
Utilizing a variety of materials, including wood, fabrics, resins, foam, adhesives, paints, epoxies, plastics, and more, to create robust props
Assisting in sourcing new products
Repairing existing props
Familiarizing and maintaining the inventory of props, furniture, and dressing items
Attending and assisting in late-night show strikes after the final performance of a production
Restocking props, furniture, and dressing items the day after the strike
Assisting in the placement and securing of set dressing as needed
Additional Tasks of the Prop Designer may include (but not limited to):

Familiarity with script and director+rsquo;s concept
Creation of Prop List and their usage
Attending all production meetings
Ensuring all rehearsal needs are met
Assisting Set Designer with set dressing needs
Ensuring all props are ready for production and fit with the overall show design
