MMT is searching for a Tech Apprentice to assist the Production staff for the remainder of the 2026 season. The contract runs from May 18th to December 20th with the possibility of renewal.
An ideal candidate is someone with lighting experience and an interest in other areas of production to join the production team. This position would work as
part of the backstage crew for each MainStage show, as well as assist the Production staff in the construction of each set and Lighting hang and focus, for all MMT Productions.
The production team is responsible for set construction, light hang, sound design, and sometimes prop/costume construction. The apprentice will have a strong role in light hangs and assist in other areas of production as needed. Opportunities for lighting design (with rep plot) for summer production camps are available, but not required.
The candidate must possess the following:
- Basic Knowledge of Lighting, including patching, Hanging fixtures, cabling, and channeling
- Experience working with LED and conventional fixtures
- Basic knowledge in simple Carpentry (ability to construct simple flats and platforms)
- Comfortable climbing ladders and working at heights
- Able to lift 50lbs
- Able 20lbs over head

The Apprentice will report to the Director of Production or Assistant Technical Director for daily work assignments and project deadlines.
When a MainStage show goes into tech rehearsals, the Apprentice will switch to deck crew duties,
which will include working backstage, performing dimmer checks, and troubleshooting any lighting issues during a run.
40 hrs/wk
$350/wk
Private room/ shared bathroom provided
Parking provided
MMT operates on a 40-hour, 5-day work week with 2 days off per week, with the exception of the opening weeks of a show to accommodate a Final Dress Rehearsal
