The Phoenix Theatre Company, Arizona's largest professional regional theatre located in downtown Phoenix, is seeking applications for a Lighting Apprentice for the 2026-2027 season.
The Apprentice Program is designed for early-career theatre artists to gain hands-on professional experience while working alongside industry professionals. Apprentices receive practical training across a range of production areas including Scenic, Properties, Costumes, Lighting, Wardrobe, Sound, and Stage Management.
This is a season-long program (approximately 51 weeks) with flexible start and end dates, offering meaningful opportunities for growth within the apprentice's area of focus.
Position Overview
The Lighting Apprentice works as a member of the electrics team supporting all aspects of the production process. Responsibilities include assisting with hang and focus, responding to technical notes, supporting load-ins and strikes, and helping maintain lighting equipment and inventory.
During production runs, the Lighting Apprentice may serve as a board operator, spotlight operator, or in other run crew positions as assigned. This position also collaborates with other departments as needed to support overall production needs. Candidates with experience in theatrical lighting, Lightwright, Vectorworks, and Q-Lab preferred.

Professional, punctual, and reliable
Open to feedback and interested in developing new skills
Preferred qualifications include:
Academic or equivalent experience in theatre production or a related field
Basic familiarity with tools, techniques, or practices relevant to the assigned department
Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to take initiative
Interest in gaining hands-on experience in a professional theatre environment
Schedule + Work Environment
The Phoenix Theatre Company is a continually operating regional theatre, apprentices should expect a dynamic and evolving work calendar.
Work schedules may include:
Daytime shop hours
Evening rehearsals and performances
Weekend performances and work calls
Holiday performances and events
Extended hours during technical rehearsals, load-ins, and strikes
Compensation + Benefits
Weekly stipend
Company-provided housing for non-local apprentices
Fully furnished, single occupancy
Utilities included
Located near the theatre in downtown Phoenix
Complimentary ticket access to Phoenix Theatre Company productions
