The Cumberland County Playhouse seeks qualified Sound Engineer/Designer to join our staff for the remainder of the 2026 season and beyond. The Playhouse is the oldest regional theater in the state of TN just having celebrated our 60th season. We have two indoor spaces; a 480 seat Mainstage and a 260 seat Black Box, we are also fortunate enough to have an outdoor space. The Playhouse is a year around theater and this season will be producing 10 shows, 1 dance production, 1 TYA productions, 5 indoor mainstage concerts and 3 black box Speakeasy concerts from February - December. Looking for a Sound Engineer to lead our sound dept, will design and run certain productions, oversee our 2nd Audio, advance and run our concert series. Expect to work some nights and weekends as the schedule requires. We work on a six-day show schedule with Monday being the designated day off except during tech weeks. It is expected during non tech weeks to do repairs, maintenance and other shop duties as needed.
Reports to the Production Manager and Technical Producer
Those encouraged to apply: Candidates who have professional experience (or extensive university experience) mixing large scale musical productions, including live Orchestras, monitors and networked equipment. Self-motivated, willing to learn and thrive as part of a team. Works well in high pressure situations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Programs and Operates Yamaha TF5 and an Allen + Heath SQ 7 Sound Boards
; Works with Sennheisers wireless microphones , SCS play effects and Qlab .
; Analyzes the sound design for each show. Coordinates with the Musical Director, Production Stage Manager and Technical Producer for the location and set up of all sound and orchestra equipment.
Plans and implements monitors unique to each production. These include conductor video monitors and audio monitors.
Helps maintain a current sound inventory and performs repairs, or sends equipment for repair as necessary. Maintains excellent communication to facilitate the organization continuing functionality.
Performs the essential job functions safely, successfully, and consistently with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
Maintains regular, punctual attendance.
Has the ability to lift 50 pounds.
Is comfortable working at heights from Genie lifts, ladders and scaffolding.
Any other duties as assigned by the Technical Producer.
Qualifications
+bull; Ideal candidate has experience mixing large-scale musicals.
+bull; Knowledge of Yamaha TF5 and an Allen + Heath SQ 7 Sound Boards and SCS play effects and Qlab required.
+bull; Musical background and familiarity with orchestra equipment preferred.
+bull; Must be comfortable working at heights (ladders, genie lifts and scaffolding)
+bull; Driver+rsquo;s License.
Pay Rate:
$450 per week
Free Housing (With the cost of living in Crossville that benefit is equivalent to $1,000 per month)
