JOB TITLE: Stage Management Apprentice
REPORTS TO: Production Manager + Head of Stage Management
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
COMPENSATION RATE: $18.75/hour
DATES: September 2026 - June 2027
LOCATION: 170 N. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601
POSITION SUMMARY: The Goodman Theatre seeks a Stage Management Apprentice to be a member of our 26/27 season. The Apprentice will work with a variety of Stage Management teams in both the Albert and Owen Theatres and gain hands-on experience with pre-production, rehearsals, and technical rehearsals.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree, has experience working at a professional theater company and has knowledge of industry practices. Excellent communication, organization and multitasking skills are a must.
This is a seasonal, non-union staff position. As a part of Goodman Theatre's apprentice program, we seek candidates from historically underrepresented groups. While all candidates will be considered, candidates of color are encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and update paperwork for each show.
Assist in preparing and maintaining the rehearsal spaces.
Facilitate with actors' memorization by being on-book and distributing line notes.
Additional departmental maintenance as time allows.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE:
Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to prioritize tasks and be very detail oriented, work collaboratively as a team member and maintain a positive attitude.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience in stage management practices and procedures.
