Job Title: Carpenter/Stagehand Swing
Reports To: Technical Director, Shop Foreman, + Stage Supervisor
Department: Production/Scenic + Deck Crew
FLSA Classification: Seasonal Full-Time Non-Exempt
Rate: $19.00/hour, Time and a half after 40 hrs

General Statement of Job Function: The Carpenter/Stagehand Swing is responsible for assisting the scenic department in the creation, load-in, and strike of production elements. In addition, this position is the main coverage for stagehands and show run crew for all Goodspeed productions at Goodspeed Opera House and the Norma Terris Theater.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities as a Carpenter:
- Complete all projects assigned by TD, ATD, and/or SF in an efficient, safe, and timely manner, while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Read, interpret, and build from construction drawings.
- Participate in the planning, construction, load-in, rigging, technical notes, and strikes of all scenic elements as assigned.
- Recognize, troubleshoot, and report problems calmly and efficiently under pressure.
- Ability to learn and utilize construction methods and material choices for assigned projects.
- Practice safe and appropriate use of common chemical-based products found in a scene shop including, but not limited to: Bondo, B-I-N Paint, Spray Paint, Barge, contact cement, spray adhesives, epoxies, etc.
- Participate in the transportation and shifting of scenery in the Scene Shop and across campus.
- Participate in packing of all scenic elements, tools, hardware, and materials required for all load-ins and strikes.
- Advise SF on the necessary maintenance of all tools used in shop and theatre spaces.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities as a Stagehand Swing:
- Work with Production Management, Department Heads, and Stage Supervisor to schedule shadowing and coverage as needed.
- Complete all assigned scenic moves in a safe, accurate, and timely manner during rehearsals and performances.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with a wide variety of coworkers at different levels of skill and knowledge
- Attend and participate in all technical rehearsals, notes, crew calls, and performances as assigned.
- Assist in coordinating the shifting and storing all scenic and properties elements.
- Participate in daily/weekly inspection of all rigging and motorized scenic elements.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of any damaged scenic elements and production equipment.
- Communicate availability and unavailability in a timely fashion

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to other departments during the run of a production that includes, but not limited to, prop and costume handoffs, board and follow spot operation.
- Maintain a clean, safe, respectful, and collaborative work environment.
- Exhibit interpersonal savvy, which includes relating comfortably to a variety of personalities, skills, and knowledge, cultivating and maintaining positive relationships, employing discretion, diplomacy, and tact, seeking the positive in all situations.
- Comfortably and effectively cope with change and ambiguity, which includes effectively transitioning between tasks and timelines, identifying priorities and making good decisions with a minimum of information, and staying relaxed and proactive when things are uncertain.

- Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications + Skills:
Strong wood, metal, and finish carpentry skills; Up-to-date knowledge of welding, rigging, carpentry, and stagecraft techniques; Strong knowledge of all commonly used theatrical construction tools, including but not limited to: measuring and layout tools, portable and stationary woodworking tools, pneumatic tools, metalworking tools, welding equipment, rigging tools, machining tools, and cabinetry tools; Able to climb four flights of stairs while carrying 40 pounds and work long hours during heavy build and tech periods; Availability nights, weekends, and the occasional holiday.

Preferred Qualifications + Skills:
Experience in Technical theatre; Valid driver+rsquo;s license with safe driving record; Ability to work comfortably at elevations of up to 30 feet; Comfortable driving a 26+rsquo; Box Truck;
