Job description

Oversees a group of employees and/or functions and provides technical assistance with day to day operations. Monitors employee performance of assigned tasks and may be authorized to make employment related decisions regarding the employees in the department.

The Costume Shop Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a team of up to 12 student workers. This includes training and leading these crews, ensuring they gain necessary skills for executing costume designs, maintaining all costume stock, keeping shop equipment in working order and teaching technical costume classes.

Required Qualifications:
Prior teaching experience at the university level
Strong background in costume and craft technology

Education Required:
MFA in Costume Technology or another relevant field
5 or more years of experience in a theater or University production setting
In-depth knowledge of patterning, sewing, and costume construction
Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.

Preferred:
Millinery, dying, corset making, makeup and hair, craft work

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Operations
Oversees construction, purchasing, fitting, repairing, cleaning, storing, and cataloging of costumes
Oversees, organizes, and maintains departmental costume inventory
Maintains, organizes, and repair shop equipment as needed
Maintains and organizes costume shop spaces, including storage, dressing rooms, and the shop itself
Production Duties
Collaborates with costume designer(s) to create quality design within production budget
Plans, evaluates, supervises, and budgets all elements related to costuming and makeup for departmental productions
Attends production and departmental meetings as necessary to coordinate costume need and timelines
Attends fittings and rehearsals as necessary to address costume needs and adjustments
Takes performer's measurements.
Provides/pulls rehearsal clothing and shoes as needed
Wardrobe Duties
Establishes costume and makeup guidelines for performers
Oversees run-of-show duties, including maintenance and cleaning of costumes during run
Trains and oversees backstage costume crew as needed
Undergraduate Teaching
Teach one undergraduate course in costume or make-up design or technology
General and Administrative Duties
Manages and tracks costume expenses related to individual productions
Manages and tracks expenses related to operating and maintenance costs of the costume shop
Oversees and facilitates costume rentals to the rest of campus
Other Duties as assigned.
