Cortland Repertory Theatre is accepting resumes for Scenic Carpenters for our 2026 summer season. CRT is a professional theater located in upstate New York, a half hour south of Syracuse, on the edge of the Finger Lakes Region.
Our 2026 summer season will run from May 18 - August 15. Shows include Oklahoma, Baskerville, 9 to 5, Daddy Long Legs, and Annie. Plus a few other special events throughout the season.
The theatre is an intimate (30ft x 30ft, with 10ft proscenium height) 250 seat, three-quarter round thrust stage, located on the second floor of a national historic building. There is no extensive rigging system nor fly space. Scenic shop is located 20 minutes from theatre and is well stocked with good equipment. The scenic department is comprised of six people: the technical director, assistant technical director, two carpenters, a scenic/carpentry intern, and a scenic charge artist.
Salary is $650 a week plus overtime. Travel expenses to Cortland are reimbursed up to $100. Housing is provided in single room/shared suite. We work 6 days a week; payday is Thursday of each week.

The Scenic Carpenters shall:
- Participate in the construction of scenery, properties and furniture to assure execution of all production requirements for all mainstage productions;
- Assist in the repair of above mentioned materials during run of current production;
- Participate in all load-ins and strikes.
- Serve as a mentor and instructor for the Carpentry intern.
- Work in a safe and productive manner.
- Perform other theatrical/technical duties as assigned, including serving on running crew if necessary.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of wood construction, fabrication techniques and scenic engineering.
- Understanding of how to interpret construction drawings. Basic CAD / Vectorworks skills preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Preferred at least 1 year experience in a scenic shop, either professionally or the college equivalent.
- Excellent personal, organizational, time management and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate, manage and coordinate staff members of varying skill levels.
- Well-established skills in adapting quickly to varying projects and problems
- Must Be able to climb and work on a ladder
- Must be able to lift/ carry 50 pounds
- Must be able to be on your feel for extended periods of time
- Must have driver+rsquo;s license and clean driving record. Own car preferred.
