Costume Shop Supervisor
Richmond Ballet, the State Ballet of Virginia, seeks a professional Costume Shop Supervisor to join its growing and dynamic organization. Located in downtown Richmond, just steps away from the James River, it is currently among one of the country+rsquo;s most admired and accomplished professional ballet companies. With the mission to awaken, uplift and unite the human spirit through the power of dance, the company employs more than 100 full and part-time staff, educates and trains avocational and pre-professional students through the School of Richmond Ballet and Minds In Motion, and tours nationally and internationally.
The Costume Shop Supervisor is responsible for the overall costume production and wardrobe operations of the entire organization, including the professional company and educational programs. Under the supervision of the Production Director, this role leads a team of three costume professionals in construction, repairs, and fittings. The Costume Shop Supervisor works independently to collaborate with designers and choreographers to achieve artistic goals. This position requires a high level of independent problem-solving skills and must be organized and proactive, working in a fast paced environment.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+bull; Oversee all wardrobe-related hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, evaluations, and payroll.
+bull; Manage workloads to meet production deadlines while fostering a supportive environment focused on skill development in patterning, draping, fitting, and construction.
+bull; Ensure confidentiality, uphold safety standards, and maintain an inclusive, respectful workplace.
+bull; Supervise all aspects of costume production, including bids, alterations, maintenance, cleaning, hair/wig and makeup design, fittings, and storage.
+bull; Maintain detailed records, including inventories, plots, dressing tracks, laundry charts, and rentals.
+bull; Support marketing, development, and outreach initiatives by coordinating costume needs for photo/video shoots, touch tours, displays, and other events.
+bull; Oversee all backstage wardrobe operations at venues, including setup, staff scheduling, quick changes, laundry, repairs, and dressing room management.
+bull; Collaborate with the Production Director on budget planning, expense tracking, and reconciliation.
Education/ Experience:
+bull; Degree Arts/ Theater with focus on costume and design or relevant industry experience
+bull; 3-5+ years of previous costume management experience
Salary Range: $50,000 - $58,000
