BridgeUP: Theater in the Schools Teaching Artist
DEPARTMENT: Education
Northern Stage in White River Junction, VT seeks knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and playful individuals to serve as Teaching Artists in our BridgeUP: Theater in the Schools Program for Spring 2026. This program serves 4th-6th grade students in New Hampshire and Vermont public schools, and consists of an 8 week in-person residency during which teaching artists introduce, cast, and rehearse a 30-minute cut of a Shakespeare play with students. This culminates in a performance at both the schools and at Northern Stage. All curriculum, scripts and materials are provided. Teaching Artists receive ongoing training throughout the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Teach in 2-3 schools for approximately 4-5 hours per week, per school
- Attend weekly Teaching Artist trainings and check ins
- Collaborate and organize casting, logistics, and preparations with your teaching partner outside of teaching hours. Roughly 4-5 hours per week, per school.
- Facilitate performances for all schools during final performance week at Northern Stage
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree or at least 2 years experience in theater production or arts education
- Experience teaching grade school students
- Enthusiasm for working with children
- Directing experience is preferred
- Ability to work as part of a teaching team of two
- Ability to maintain grace under pressure and to keep up a positive attitude
- Ability to collaborate and problem solve
- Valid driver+rsquo;s license preferred
- Loading and unloading 50 pounds worth of sound equipment, costumes and props
Contract Dates: 04/11/26 - 06/12/26
Compensation: $500.00 a week for teaching in 2 schools, $750.00 a week for teaching in 3 schools
Job Type: 25-35 hours a week
Travel and Housing: included
