The Great River Shakespeare Festival is looking for a Draper for this upcoming repertory season of Pericles and A Midsummer Nights Dream. Must be available from 5/12/2026-6/28/2026. Housing is included.

The Draper typically works in the costume shop alongside the costume shop manager and costume designer to drape/pattern, tailor and alter any costume pieces. The draper is also responsible for mentoring the first hand and costume apprentices in the costume shop.


Job duties include:
- Meet with Costume Designers to discuss renderings and vision for the show.

- Analyze renderings, Drape/Pattern, tailor, and/or other specialized artisan tasks that are required for the successful and timely realization of the costume designs

- Assist in the altering of purchased/pulled costume pieces as needed

- Instruct the First Hand in the cutting/layout of garments

- Plan build assignments for the Costume Apprentices, First Hand/Stitcher with the Costume Shop Manager

- Assign daily tasks to the Costume Apprentices, First Hand/Stitcher

- Attend actor measurements and costume fittings as necessary

- Attend technical rehearsals, production meetings and other meetings as needed

- Notify Costume Shop Manager of supply needs

- Provide Costume Shop Manager with yardage estimates for builds

Qualifications:
This position requires someone who is punctual, able to take initiative, able to take direction, is detail oriented, works well under pressure, and can mentor others effectively.

- Three plus years of experience working in a costume shop or equivalent experience

- Previous experience working as a First Hand or Draper

- Previous experience of a leadership role in a costume shop

- Proficient knowledge of costume shop equipment and techniques

- Proficient in costume cutting, draping, and patterning

- Ability to multitask effectively
