Greenbrier Valley Theatre is proud to be the State Professional Theatre of West Virginia, dedicated to producing high-quality live performances that enrich our community. Our 2026 season will consist of Ripcord, Greenbrier Ghost, Tuesdays with Morrie, The Mousetrap, and Miracle on 34th Street: The Live Musical Radio Play.

The Youth Education Program at Greenbrier Valley Theatre aims to be a safe place to nurture creativity, build confidence, and provide a supportive environment for young performers and students in Greenbrier county. We know that encouraging involvement with the arts for all students in the area helps them develop lifelong skills in public speaking, teamwork, empathy, and creative problem-solving that will serve them in any profession and strengthen the communities in which they live and work. The GVT Youth Education Program offers a variety of programming for students in grades K-12, including after-school drama classes, an annual spring musical, and summer drama camp.


Position Overview

Greenbrier Valley Theatre is seeking a skilled and collaborative Actor/Teaching Artist for a 9-week summer contract. In this role, you will work closely with the Education Director and GVT Staff to act in the production of The Greenbrier Ghost and assist GVT staff with youth actor supervision during rehearsals and performances for the first six weeks of the contract, and during the last three weeks of the contract, serve as a lead Teaching Artist for summer camp. The summer camp is three one-week camps for youth, divided by age. This position requires a candidate who enjoys working with youth and enjoys performing, making it an ideal opportunity for current college students, recent college graduates, or emerging professionals seeking a career in theatre or live event production.

Key Responsibilities
Acting in the mainstage production of The Greenbrier Ghost.

Assisting GVT staff with youth actor supervision during rehearsals and performances.

Splitting responsibility as a lead teaching artist during all Summer Camp classes and rehearsals. for students in grades K-2, 3-5, or 6-10. This includes, but is not limited to, the day-to-day running of the camp, pulling props and costumes, assistant teaching, writing, and co-directing classes and showcase plays, and maintaining the education space.

Ensuring the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of all students.

Show skills in leadership, maturity, organization, independence, and initiative.

Oversee and assist throughout camp when necessary.

Required Experience + Skills
Confident and competent working with students and leading them in drama activities.

Experience with creating and executing lesson plans for theatre workshops.

Attention to detail, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work well both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Physical capability to work on your feet for extended periods and perform tasks that may require heavy lifting or manual dexterity.

Flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends as production schedules demand.

Be able to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Experience + Skills
A degree or working towards a degree in Theatre Performance or Education

Employment Details
Salary range for this position is $500 per week for the 9-week contract

Out of town seasonal hires receive a private bedroom with a shared bathroom, living and kitchen space within walking distance of the theatre. Housing is furnished, and basic kitchen supplies and bedding are provided. There is access to complimentary laundry facilities and wifi.

A travel stipend of $150 will be offered for this position.

The contract begins June 15, 2026 and concludes on August 14, 2026.

This is a full-time position requiring a variable schedule to meet production demands, including day, weekend, and evening hours. Compensation on a standard 40-hour work week. Overtime is paid in accordance with state and federal law with managerial approval.

US work authorization is required.

All seasonal employees must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
