Scenic Carpenter:
The Scenic Carpenter reports to the Production Manager and Technical Director and works as part of the Scenic Department supporting a fast-paced, five-show summer season. This is a hands-on position focused on the construction, modification, and installation of theatrical scenery. Scenic fabrication for the season will occur both on-site and off-site, with a significant portion of build work taking place at an external shop location. The Scenic Carpenter is responsible for executing assigned scenic builds accurately and safely, following technical drawings and guidance from the Technical Director.
This year, the Scenic Carpenter will work alongside the Technical Director, Scenic Charge (painter), and limited overhire, and will collaborate with external vendors during off-site fabrication and installation.
Key Responsibilities:
+bull; Build and modify scenic elements for a 5-show season, including platforms, framing, flats, and other structural components.
+bull; Execute scenic construction tasks from technical drawings and verbal instruction.
+bull; Assist with installation, changeovers, load-ins, and strikes of scenic elements.
+bull; Support off-site scenic fabrication and coordinate transport of scenery as needed.
+bull; Participate in basic rigging and installation of scenic elements, following safe shop practices.
+bull; Collaborate with the Technical Director and Scenic Charge to meet build deadlines and production needs.
+bull; Assist with scenic notes, repairs, and adjustments during technical rehearsals and performances as assigned.
+bull; Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in all shop and performance spaces.
+bull; Assist with Totem Pole Playhouse+rsquo;s +ldquo;Tucked Away Treasure+rdquo; Series and Camp Performances as needed.
+bull; Perform other duties traditionally associated with this job title in live theatrical production.
Requirements:
+bull; Moderate experience in traditional scenic construction and shop practices.
+bull; Proficiency with power tools and comfort working on tall ladders.
+bull; Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and work long, physically demanding hours as required.
+bull; Ability to follow technical drawings and execute assigned builds with accuracy.
+bull; Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a small scenic team.
+bull; Willingness to adapt to evolving schedules, work locations, and production needs.
+bull; Willingness to take on additional technical projects and support the overall production as directed by the Producer.
Weekly Salary Range $475-555 DOE
