The Sharon Playhouse, the historic, professional, nonprofit theater located in the foothills of the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, is seeking to fill the role of Assistant Production Electrician (Partial Season) for its 2026 season. The Sharon Playhouse offers you the opportunity to work alongside professional artists from NYC, the tri-state area, and beyond. Our upcoming MainStage season includes Swingtime Canteen, 42nd Street and Come From Away, as well as, our Spotlight Gala, Writer+rsquo;s Playground and a special reading of The Divine Sister. Our YouthStage season includes Pooh+rsquo;s Parade, Matilda Jr., Big Bad, Shrek, Kids, the Launchpad Company production of Zombie Prom, and a school partnership production of Shrek, Kids with Indian Mountain School.
The Assistant Production Electrician reports to the Technical Director, Production Electrician, and Production Manager.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Assist the Production Electrician with the safe installation, maintenance, and operation of all electrical systems used in productions, primarily focusing on stage lighting.
Follow the lighting designer+rsquo;s plan, ensuring proper power distribution, and operate lighting equipment during performances as needed.
Support the supervision and scheduling of the workload for the Lighting Apprentice.
Work in collaboration with Creative Teams and Production Staff.
Assist with repair and maintenance of the Playhouse inventory, as well as coordinate and advise on equipment purchases and replacement.
Help implement the development of a rep plot for the season in collaboration with the season Lighting Designer.
Perform dimmer checks for every performance and be prepared to serve as the lighting board operator and/or follow-spot operator for productions.
Participate in cross-departmental production and venue support, as needed, to ensure overall success of all event and venue operations.
Be familiar with all campus electrics, emergency protocol, and safety standards.
Attend and participate in production meetings.
Be responsive to emails, meet deadlines, and communicate regularly and promptly with the Technical Director, Production Managers, Season Lighting Designer, Production Electrician, and others as appropriate.
Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.
Computer proficiency, specifically with lighting design software.
Knowledge of Lighting Systems: Understanding the setup, maintenance, and operation of theatrical lighting, including types of lights (LED, incandescent, automated), control systems (DMX, ETC), and dimming systems.
Troubleshooting: Ability to quickly identify and solve electrical or lighting issues during rehearsals or live performances.
Must be comfortable climbing ladders and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Prior experience as an Assistant Production Electrician or similar role is preferred.
Dates of employment: August 17 - October 4, 2026. This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Compensation is structured as a weekly rate of $400 (not hourly) and will be prorated based on arrival date and total weeks worked. The Sharon Playhouse is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
