The Sharon Playhouse, the historic, professional, nonprofit theater located in the foothills of the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, is seeking to fill the role of YouthStage Costume Director/Launchpad Costume Assistant for its 2026 season. The Sharon Playhouse offers you the opportunity to work alongside professional artists from NYC, the tri-state area, and beyond. Our upcoming MainStage season includes Swingtime Canteen, 42nd Street and Come From Away, as well as, our Spotlight Gala, Writer+rsquo;s Playground and a special reading of The Divine Sister. Our YouthStage season includes Pooh+rsquo;s Parade, Matilda Jr., Big Bad, Shrek, Kids, the Launchpad Company production of Zombie Prom, and a school partnership production of Shrek, Kids with Indian Mountain School.


The YouthStage Costume Director/Launchpad Costume Assistant reports to the Education Team, Costume Shop Manager and the YouthStage Production Manager.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Collaborating with and reporting to the Costume Shop Manager.
Reading and researching all YouthStage/Launchpad scripts and materials.
Collaborating with the creative teams on the vision and design for each YouthStage production
Assisting with Costumes and Wardrobe for tech and performances of the Launchpad Company production of Zombie Prom
Creating a costume plot for each show
Designing and sourcing costumes through a combination of pulling, building, buying, and renting
Scheduling and running all fittings
Constructing and altering costumes as needed
Attending and participating in production meetings
Attending designer runs, tech rehearsals and performances
Overseeing all aspects of costuming for performances
In collaboration with the Wardrobe Supervisor: laundering, striking and restoring all YouthStage costumes.
Be present during YouthStage +ldquo;camp+rdquo; hours for measurements, fittings, and other needs. On dress rehearsal days, the YouthStage Costume Designer should arrive 30 minutes prior to the youth call time.
Be responsive to emails, meet deadlines, and communicate regularly and promptly with the Costume Shop Manager, Wardrobe Supervisor, YouthStage Stage Manager, Production Managers, Education Team, and others as appropriate.
In collaboration with the Costume Shop Team: maintaining the Costume Shop so that it is organized and clean.


Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Costume Design
Experience with and passion for working with ages 5-20
Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently, excellent organizational and time-management skills, a positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.

Dates of employment are from June 15-August 23, 2026. This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Compensation is structured as a weekly rate of $550 (not hourly) and will be prorated based on arrival date and total weeks worked. The Sharon Playhouse is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
