The Sharon Playhouse, the historic, professional, nonprofit theater located in the foothills of the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, is seeking to fill the role of Props Manager for its 2026 season. The Sharon Playhouse offers you the opportunity to work alongside professional artists from NYC, the tri-state area, and beyond. Our upcoming MainStage season includes Swingtime Canteen, 42nd Street and Come From Away, as well as, our Spotlight Gala, Writer+rsquo;s Playground and a special reading of The Divine Sister. Our YouthStage season includes Pooh+rsquo;s Parade, Matilda Jr., Big Bad, Shrek, Kids, the Launchpad Company production of Zombie Prom, and a school partnership production of Shrek, Kids with Indian Mountain School.
The Props Manager reports to the Technical Director, Production Manager, Props Director and Playhouse Team.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
The Props Manager is responsible for obtaining all props needed for the YouthStage and Launchpad Company productions. They will pull from storage, purchase, rent, borrow or make the props.
Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the production team.
Be responsive to emails and communicate regularly and promptly with Directors, Stage Managers, Production Managers, and others as appropriate.
Create a Props List, to be collaborated on with the Director, Stage Manager, and Creative Team of each YouthStage/Launchpad production.
Work with the Stage Management team to assemble rehearsal props before the first rehearsal.
Carry out research, shopping and borrowing runs, and build projects as assigned by the Production Manager.
Research and obtain rental quotes for appropriate items.
Track and ensure weekly organization and submission of receipts.
Participates in cross-departmental production and venue support, as needed, to ensure overall success of all events and productions.
Provide support to the Mainstage Props Director on an as needed basis.
As a member of the seasonal staff, this position plays an active role in collaborating with the Props Director and supporting and mentoring the Sharon Playhouse apprentices, sharing knowledge and guidance in your area of expertise to foster their growth and development.
Qualifications:
All candidates must have a valid driver+rsquo;s license. Use of candidate+rsquo;s own vehicle is preferred, but not required.
Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently, excellent organizational and time-management skills, a positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.
Prior Prop Management experience preferred.
Proficient in Google Docs
Dates of employment are from June 15 -August 23, 2026. This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Compensation is structured as a weekly rate of $450 (not hourly) and will be prorated based on arrival date and total weeks worked. The Sharon Playhouse is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
