The Sharon Playhouse, the historic, professional, nonprofit theater located in the foothills of the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, is seeking to fill the role of Production Carpenter for its 2026 season. The Sharon Playhouse offers you the opportunity to work alongside professional artists from NYC, the tri-state area, and beyond. Our upcoming MainStage season includes Swingtime Canteen, 42nd Street and Come From Away, as well as, our Spotlight Gala, Writer+rsquo;s Playground and a special reading of The Divine Sister. Our YouthStage season includes Pooh+rsquo;s Parade, Matilda Jr., Big Bad, Shrek, Kids, the Launchpad Company production of Zombie Prom, and a school partnership production of Shrek, Kids with Indian Mountain School.
The Production Carpenters report directly to the Technical Director.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for the construction and fabrication of scenery and props as required for all productions.
Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the theater.
Assists in training and assignment of apprentices or paid technical staff.
Monitors the condition of equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
Attends production meetings and technical rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting the show.
Participates in cross-departmental venue support, as needed, to ensure overall success of all event and venue operations, with a willingness to move and transport scenery and risers as required.
With the seasonal staff; organizes, executes and maintains the cleanliness of stage, shops/storage, and support areas, including buildings and grounds.
Be responsive to emails, meet deadlines, and communicate regularly and promptly with the Technical Director, Production Managers, and others as appropriate.
As a member of the seasonal staff, this position plays an active role in supporting and mentoring the Sharon Playhouse apprentices, sharing knowledge and guidance in your area of expertise to foster their growth and development.
Qualifications:
Experience in technical theater and theater production, including the use of tools and equipment.
Strong computer proficiency, specifically with Excel and drafting (AutoCAD/Vectorworks).
Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently, excellent organizational and time-management skills, a positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.
Applicants must be able to work both independently and as a crew leader.
Dates of employment are from May 11 - September 27, 2026. This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Compensation is structured as a weekly rate of $425 (not hourly) and will be prorated based on arrival date and total weeks worked. The Sharon Playhouse is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
