Dorset Theatre Festival, an acclaimed AEA summer company in Vermont, offers opportunities for in-depth
professional experience through entry-level assistant positions. Assistants are crucial parts of each department,
learning from and working with professional theatre staff and renowned actors, directors, playwrights, and
designers, many with Broadway credits, in our charming, well-equipped theatre in a quintessential rural Vermont
setting.
Additionally, the Festival fosters a collaborative environment and provides holistic learning opportunities by
requiring all assistants to participate in changeovers between productions.
About the Position:
Dorset Theatre Festival seeks a Wardrobe Assistant for their 2026 summer season. Employment dates run May 26th through about September 7th.
Under the direction of the Costume Shop Manager, Costume Technician, and Costume Designers, the Wardrobe
Assistant will provide wardrobe needs for the 4-show Main Stage season, participating in fittings, load-in, tech, and strike for the department. The Wardrobe Assistant will be a member of all 4 backstage run crews, assisting
performers with quick changes and all costume and wig changes during rehearsals and performances, and will
care, launder, and maintain show clothes, wigs, and costume accessories.
The Wardrobe Assistant attends designer run-throughs and tech rehearsals and will work in the costume shop to
assist with notes, alterations, and other projects.
Two years of college (or relevant work experience) required. Experience in costume maintenance and alterations, as well as strong interpersonal, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills required.
Candidates for this position should be able to manage all personality types with grace and good humor and be
able to calmly cope with unforeseen problems.
Compensation:
$400 per week; shared-occupancy rooming provided.
