Position Overview
Theatre By The Sea (TBTS) is seeking a Sound Supervisor (A1) for its 2026 summer season. The Sound Supervisor oversees the installation, operation, and maintenance of audio systems for a four-show musical season and serves as the department lead for sound.

This role works closely with the Sound Designer, Production Manager, Technical Director, Assistant Production Manager, and Stage Management team to plan sound installations, support technical rehearsals, and ensure consistent audio operations throughout the season.

This is a hands-on leadership position ideal for an experienced audio technician who values collaboration, organization, and being an active part of a production team rather than operating in isolation.

Primary Responsibilities
Serve as the Sound Supervisor (A1) for all productions
Oversee sound system load-ins, setup, testing, changeovers, and strikes
Mix performances as required and/or supervise show operation based on production needs
Coordinate with the Sound Designer to implement system design, cueing, and notes
Supervise and support the Assistant Sound (A2) and any audio overhire
Maintain and troubleshoot sound equipment, including consoles, speakers, microphones, and playback systems
Oversee wireless microphone systems, RF coordination, and mic maintenance in collaboration with the A2
Collaborate with Production Management and Technical staff to plan installs, schedules, and staffing needs
Ensure safe working practices and maintain a clean, organized audio workspace
Communicate proactively regarding equipment needs, scheduling concerns, and technical challenges
Children+rsquo;s Programming Support
This position includes participation in technical support for Theatre By The Sea+rsquo;s children+rsquo;s productions on an as-needed basis. Specific dates and expectations will be communicated in advance and incorporated into the seasonal schedule.

Qualifications
Prior experience as a Sound Supervisor, A1, or equivalent role in regional or summer stock theatre
Strong working knowledge of theatrical sound systems for musical theatre
Experience mixing live musical theatre preferred
Familiarity with wireless microphone systems and RF coordination
Ability to read and work from sound paperwork and designer documentation
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to collaborate effectively within a fast-paced production environment

Schedule + Commitment
Full-season commitment required
Positions are scheduled for 40 hours per week
Evening and weekend work required based on rehearsal, performance, and production schedules
Overtime is limited, requires prior approval, and is typically confined to technical rehearsal and changeover weeks

Compensation
Competitive weekly rate, commensurate with experience
Housing and travel assistance may be available
