Are you ready to master your craft in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility?
Olney Theatre Center is at a landmark moment in its 80+ year history. As one of Maryland+rsquo;s two state-designated theaters, we are expanding our 14-acre campus and our artistic reach. This April, we are opening a massive, custom-built Production facility including a new Scenic Studio, and we are looking for a skilled Scenic Carpenter to help us break it in.
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love the smell of sawdust and the spark of a MIG welder, and want to see your work on four different stages for 8+ world-class productions a year, we want you on our team.

THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Scenic Carpenter, you aren't just building sets; you are the engine behind the magic. You will work collaboratively with a high-octane production team to bring the visions of Tony and Grammy-winning designers to life. From massive proscenium musicals to intimate, immersive dramas, your handiwork will be the foundation for everything our audiences see.
In this role, you will:
Innovate in our New Scenic Studio: Be among the first to utilize our brand-new scenic studio, helping to establish workflows and organizational systems in a fresh, modern space.
Master Multi-Material Fabrication: Lead the charge in wood, metal (MIG welding), and plastics, turning complex shop drawings into structural reality.
Own the Production Cycle: Be there for the "Aha!" moments+mdash;from the first cut in the shop to the final piece of the load-in and the high-energy teamwork of strike.
Collaborate with the Best: Work directly under the Technical Director and Associate TD in a culture that values creative problem-solving and technical excellence.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE BENCH
Be the vital link between the designer's imagination and the stage; we need a builder who interprets technical drafts as the blueprint for an unforgettable audience experience. You should have:
The Toolkit: Professional-level proficiency with the "Big Five" (Table Saw, Miter Saw, Band Saw, and Drill Press) plus a mastery of hand and cordless tools. Experience with a CNC router is a plus.
The Metal: Solid MIG welding and metal-working skills are essential for our ambitious structural builds.
The Vision: The ability to read theatrical drafting and translate it into a safe, durable, and beautiful product.
The Spirit: A resourceful, "can-do" attitude, a commitment to shop safety, and the stamina to keep pace with a thriving, 8-show season.

WHY OLNEY THEATRE CENTER?
A Growing Legacy: Join an $10M/year organization that has hosted legends like Sir Ian McKellen, Andr+eacute; De Shields, Bernadette Peters, and more.
Unrivaled Variety: With four distinct performance spaces, no two workweeks are ever the same.
Comprehensive Benefits: We take care of our own with a full benefits package and a 403(b) match.
Inclusive Culture: We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and believe that a diverse scenic studio is a stronger, more creative studio.
