The New London Barn Playhouse, a professional summer theater in New Hampshire, seeks designers/technicians for the staff of their education department. The Junior Intern Company is
an audition-based company who put on four productions each summer as part of the Children's Theater Series. The Technical Educator for this company should be a theatre practitioner with
teaching experience and a passion for working with young artists. Potential lighting + sound designing opportunities available.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Oversee the education of Tech and Design Junior Interns (a group of 1+ndash;4 teenagers) in various design areas throughout the summer season.
- Mentor the Technical JIs and oversee their educational/artistic experience.
- Coordinate with JI Technical Director , JI Costume Designer, and JI Stage Manager to train Tech JIs in scene/props/paint/costume/makeup design and technology, as well as stage
management, based on students+rsquo; skills and interests.
- Coordinate with mainstage lighting and sound designers to involve Tech JIs in the lighting and sound design process without disrupting mainstage schedules.
- Create a schedule so Tech JIs receive a balance of tech and design education, as well as shop hours assisting the scenic/props and costume designers.
- Assign Tech JIs to backstage roles for each production process, based on the shows+rsquo; needs and students+rsquo; interests.
- Assist JI Scenic/Props and JI Costume Designers with their show builds if you are not teaching Tech JIs during rehearsals.
- Run backstage duties during tech/performances.
- Help oversee daily load-ins and load-outs of theater during tech/performances
- Be a role model for the company, in teaching JIs professional theater etiquette, both for rehearsals and performances.
- Assist with other production matters as necessary
- Work in main stage scene shop if needed, within regular schedule
- Optional: Take on a creative role for one of the shows, such as directing, choreographing, stage managing, or designing an area of the show.

REQUIREMENTS / SKILLS:
- Experience teaching technical theatre skills
- Experience in scene and/or costume shops, designing and building
- Experience working with children or teenagers a plus
- Must pass a state of New Hampshire background check
- Ability to work in a rigorous, fast-paced environment
- Time management, meeting deadlines, and budget planning/reporting
- Creative problem solving
- Passion for collaboration
- Driven self-starter and multi-tasker
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A sense of humor and fun

COMPENSATION:
- $2500+ndash;$3000 fee based on experience (paid in weekly installments)
- Housing and meals provided
- Travel stipend
