Properties Artisan
The historic Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA +mdash; the oldest continuously operating summer
theater in America- is accepting resumes for a Properties Artisan for our 2026 Summer
Season which includes Nat Zegree's Mozart to Pop Chart, Into the Woods, Hairspray, Mean
Girls, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and various smaller events throughout
the summer. The rate for this position is $16-18.00/hour commensurate with experience. This
is a full time position with opportunity for overtime after 40 hrs a week.
This contract begins on May 18th and ends on September 6th. There is some flexibility to
start and end dates. Housing may be provided.
The Props Artisan reports to the Props Supervisor.
The Props Artisan is responsible for aiding in all elements of hand prop, set dressing, and
scenic prop construction as well as helping with load-ins and strikes typical of a traditional
summer theater. The Props Artisan will aid the Props Supervisor in overseeing apprentices
in safe and proper usage of shop tools/materials. When/if necessary, the Properties Artisan
may also aid the scene shop with the construction of any/all scenic elements.
Advanced carpentry skills and the ability to read drafts/follow plans is required. Experience
with crafting, painting, sewing, photoshop, welding and upholstery skills are strongly
preferred. 1 year of professional experience or educational equivalent is preferred.
