Scenic Carpenter:
The historic Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA - the oldest continuously operating summer
theater in America- is accepting resumes for a Scenic Carpenter for our 2026 Summer
Season which includes Nat Zegree's Mozart to Pop Chart, Into the Woods, Hairspray, Mean
Girls, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and various smaller events throughout
the summer. The rate for this position is $16-18.00/hour commensurate with experience. This
is a full time position with opportunity for overtime after 40 hrs in a week.
This contract begins on May 18th and ends on September 6th. There is some flexibility to
start and end dates. Housing may be provided.
The Scenic Carpenter reports to the Technical Director.
The Scenic Carpenter is responsible for aiding in all elements of scenic engineering,
construction, rigging and helping lead load-ins and strikes typical of a traditional summer
theater for any/all mainstage productions, concerts, and the 2026 Gala. The Carpenter
will follow guidelines set forth by the TD, ATD, and Lead Carpenter to execute the best
applicable theatrical construction methods in a safe and efficient manner. When necessary,
the Scenic Carpenter may also assist Properties in the construction of set dressing, scenery
props, set dressing and hand props.
Ability to read drafts and follow plans is required. Experience in a professional shop is
greatly preferred. Experience in rigging and welding (MIG) is preferred. The Carpenter
must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as, but
not limited to, lifting, bending, standing, climbing.
