Lead Carpenter:
The historic Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA - the oldest continuously operating summer
theater in America- is accepting resumes for a Lead Carpenter for our 2026 Summer
Season which includes Nat Zegree's Mozart to Pop Chart, Into the Woods, Hairspray, Mean
Girls, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and various smaller events throughout
the summer. The rate for this position is $17-19.00/hour commensurate with experience. This
is a full time position with opportunity for overtime after 40 hrs in a week.
This contract begins on May 4th and ends on September 6th. There is some flexibility to
start and end dates. Housing may be provided.
The Lead Carpenter is responsible for aiding in all elements of scenic engineering,
construction, rigging and helping lead load-ins and strikes typical of a traditional summer
theater. The Lead Carpenter will also be instructing scene shop staff in the best applicable
theatrical construction methods in a safe and efficient manner. They will work with the ATD
and TD to ensure that the scene shop remains on task. They will work with the Shop
Supervisor to maintain cleanliness and stock of the shop, as well as determine and collect
all tools/materials necessary for each changeover and ensure that they are returned back
to the shop in a timely manner.

Ability to read drafts and follow plans is required. Experience in a professional shop is
required. Experience in rigging and welding (MIG) is preferred. Lead Carpenter must be
able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as, but not
limited to, lifting, bending, standing, climbing.
