Position: Lead Carpenter @ Bay Street Theater - Summer 2026
Compensation: $22/hr (+ 1.5x Overtime above 40 hrs/week)
Reports to: Technical Director + Assistant Technical Director
Location: The Assistant Technical Director position is on-site, in Sag Harbor, NY and Riverhead, NY. Housing is provided.

Schedule: The work schedule is determined by Technical Director and Asst. Technical Director. This position requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BSTs performance calendar. This is a seasonal position.

Duties and Responsibilities
The BST mainstage season features the mounting of 4 productions and other special events. The position assists the TD + ATD in overseeing the Staff Carpenters. The Lead Carpenter establishes and enforces policies and practices that ensure the highest levels of safety and responsible usage. The Lead Carpenter works with the coordinated scenic team to ensure smooth productions that come in on- time and on-budget. This post requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BSTs performance calendar.

The Lead Carpenters general responsibilities will include:

PRE and POST SEASON
- Assist in the setup of scenic shop for beginning of season, assist in compiling regarding any general shop and supplies needs
- Assist in the restoration and cleanup of scenic shop at the end of the season, including updating the stock item inventory and re-stocking general supplies and materials

MAINSTAGE SEASON
- Assist in the construction and installation for all Mainstage productions
- Assist in coordinating the purchase of materials for the construction of all scenic elements
- Assist the TD on the construction of sets to ensure design completion and labor efficiency to balance budget necessities with design integrity
- Actively participate in scenic load-in and load-outs, help supervise changeovers
- Attend all necessary production meetings if/as determined by the TD
- Assist in establishing and administering equipment maintenance timetables and checklists that ensure shop equipment is properly maintained in good working order, that equipment is regularly tested, and that replacement equipment and stock is ordered as needed

ADDITIONAL SPECIAL EVENTS
- Assist in the coordination and build of scenic needs for all other BST events including, but not limited to concerts, comedian performances, galas, and other special events/projects as needed, including Literature Live production.
