STAGES St. Louis is looking for an Assistant Technical Director for our 2026 season. Although start and end dates are flexible, they are generally from March to September. The Assistant Technical Director works closely with the Technical Director and Lead Carpenter to direct the Scene Shop.

1. Required skills
a. Personnel management including teaching, supervising, and collaborating
b. Confident in monitoring and tracking budget spending
c. Confident drafting using AutoCAD for construction drawings
d. Confident reading drawings for build and directing construction with carpentry team
e. Confident in knowledge and ability to perform safe rigging practices
f. Confident in operating and maintaining Shop Sabre CNC.

2. Required duties
a. Supervise and build daily work schedule of the carpentry staff in the shop and theatre
b. Supervise and direct theatre load in
c. Assist the Technical Director to set up scene shop and stock supplies
d. Perform any inspections, repairs, or alterations

3. Required concepts
a. Excellent interpersonal skills with many different personality types
b. Project management including time, labor, and materials estimation
c. Ability to supervise tech rehearsals in absence of Technical Director
d. Attention to detail in all aspects
e. Commitment to performing all aspects of job with respect to design adherence as well as safety

4. Organizational
a. Required to participate on show crew in the event of illness or injury
b. Read and adhere to the guidelines in the Employee Handbook
c. Other duties as assigned

Working conditions may include nights and weekends, and some overtime as needed. Ability to stand for long periods, climb ladders and stairs, and work at heights. A moderate degree of physical ability is associated with production positions, including the ability to lift and move up to 70lbs. Must be able to safely operate a fly system as well as have knowledge of properly knotting ropes. Wearing and or using personal protective equipment is required. May be required to drive a company cargo van and 26' box truck.
